Honestly I could think of no other supercar I'd want to own more than a Ferrari F40. IMO Just the most pure driving supercar to be made, no 'rose-tinted' "oh it was quick for it's time" stuff... proper power, rude turbos, propensity to come on-blow mid-corner and cause the car to spin if you weren't ON it, and no weight or ac or satnav or any other shit to distract you from the pure pleasure of driving.

So much win! And i'm really not a ferrari-man at all really either!

Just thought I'd share this with you all.

Oh and on that note, I've noticed for some time now, Fifth Gear is bloody brilliant! It's about actual cars, they do this thing called driving. They talk about how the cars drive, rather than relying on tortured metaphors, and f*ck me can Tiff and Jason Plato drive!!! I think it's been going that way for some time, but I'd say Fifth Gear is now better than Top Gear as it's actually a car show still...

Agreed. Im not a massive fan of ferraris but the f40 is sexual
Top gear hasnt been about cars for a long time. Its a comedy now with a bit of driving here and there but still normally very good.

Am I the only one who doesn't really desire a supercar over something that's been built for a driving enthusiast? Or to put it another way, something not aimed at ham-fisted idiots with more money than talent??

Tbh i cant think of a single hyper car i actually like. But i agree with Ed. I would much prefer something like a GT86 which is supposed to be a great drive. Lets face it, you will never use 500bhp to its full potential on our roads so why have it drinking fuel!

Course you don't! Can f*ck up in a 60bhp 106 so I'm guessing you can in a supercar too.

I have to say, other than looking at their fancy bits and bobs and the sheer rarity of most of them... I don't get the whole supercar thing either. I'd much rather spend my money building something more "normal" into something special that would show one up.

Rowell, go look up the definition of supercar, bloody kids, what do they teach you in university these days?!? Edit: And you sean. :p
I'm inclined to agree with Ed and co, i find supercars impressive in terms of a demonstration of engineering prowess, and sure they're pretty to look at and sound nice, but they're just another status symbol in reality, another declaration of how ball-achingly unimaginative someone is when it comes to spending money they don't need to.

Yeah you just have to sacrifice the one thing you really need when driving a performance car...

Driver feedback. You will have none of it with all those computers doing the work for you.

If I had to have a supercar it would be the Ascari A10

Correct.

You can't categorise car enthusiasts by the cars they're enthusiastic about!

Just because they don't particularly interest me, doesn't make me less of a car fan. I wouldn't say no to an F40 and there's countless old Americans I'd love... but that's not what this thread is about.

I just don't see the appeal myself, I get more enjoyment in making a car than from buying it.

		simples.... outright speed!
Fair enough, but i would of thought people who are on a forum as such would be enthusiastic of all cars and aspire to own monster powered cars, must be just me then

I was doing over 100 on my private runway today and it wasnt enough! craved more power more go. more adrenalin!!
And lets be honest youre not going to get that satisfied feeling of being too scared to go faster unless you have a super / hyper car....

Also how can anyone not want a Porsche 911 GT2? any car thats nicknamed the widow maker is sure to stir something in your pants
