Right this weekend sam spotted a small bit of rust (wanker) on one of the chassis legs on my car. Nothing major and its still solid, hasnt rotted through. Over the winter i really want to tidy up my engine bay and that includes tackling any rust as i dont want to have to scrap this one as well!
Now this isnt something i know a huge amount about so this is where i need some help. Im assuming its a case of wire bit in a drill, get rid of all the loose crap back to bare metal, treat with some sort of rust treatment and paint to stop it rusting again. Correct?
Anyone recommend any good rust treatment?

Yeah wire brush it but keep the drill on a low setting. Coat it in Krust or equivalent
 Paint in Hammerite or whatever!

depends how bad it is. You should be able to get away with sanding/scraping/wire brushing it back to bare metal, then rust treat and paint. But keep an eye on it afterwards..

While you're there you might as well get the waxoyl out and start doing things like the inside arch liners etc.
Also I hope you're not planning on doing it this weekend as you're at mine

Its not too bad really but want to catch it before it gets worse. Put it this way, ive seen much worse.
Will probably take the front end off and do all of the chassis legs as theres spots of surface rust over all of them. Seems to be a bit of a weak spot on these 306s!

i have a knack for spotting flaws in other peoples cars, it's a gift
but yes, wire brush/grinder/hammer/brick then kurust and then maybe red oxide and then paint. bish bash bosh

actually i remember reading about some shit on the '6 forum that they all rave about, cant remember what it was called tho, have a look for the project where the dude rebuilt his astor and zinc passivated ALL of the bolts, pretty sure it was in there. good way to kill a few hours too

and by 'shit' i mean rust treatment, of course

Don't use a grinder as it pushes good steel over the rust so the corrosion is still underneath!!
