		Right,
Decided that I'm going to treat the car to a new exhaust system as the current one is wank. I'll hang onto it in case it is needed for MOT time.

Now, I've probably asked already but -
 - Best Internal Diameter (i/d)
 - With no cat, will I want a silencer or just straight-thru?
 - I definitely want a new back-box with a decent tip
 - Will it be too loud? Bearing in mind baby will be here soon...

Any help much appreciated. What am I likely to pay from an independant? Doesn't have to be a stainless system, just do the job.

Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

Turbo back with one box up here is about £300-350, add another box and it jumps up to £400+.
Really not sure with TD motors as what to expect from various ID's. I'd have though something meaty like a 3" system will flow majorly well?

I'm also interested in what people have to say about them

IMO, cut out the cat, and replace the rear box with a second mid if you dont want it too loud.
Also I'll buy the cat off you if its genuine.

Previous owner was fairly determined that the cat didn't look genuine, looks like an aftermarket replacement by all accounts.
Would I benefit from just having a decat pipe made up and replacing the back box? ie. Keeping the mid-section as existing.

Are the Decat pipes on eBay good value for money? Pressumably they have the correct unions at either end to bolt right up...? £112 though.

What's with this Hoffman stuff on eBay, is it any good?

Just have it cut out and a pipe welded in, is what I've done on mine, also removed the flange between the car and the mid section so its one piece.
The mid boxes are straight through perforated tube no wadding in them but they do quieten them down a bit bit not restrictive.

The decat pipes on the bay are a rip off, mine cost me about £5 for the pipe and a hours work.

The hofman stuff is quite good had a centre section on my gti

Hmm, well there's a Hoffmann decat pipe for £47, pressumably I could just add that to my current setup?
They have a HDi 'race tube' too, but I imagine that would be quite noisy?

The Hoffman set up is what i'd have on a hatch.. (they don't do 'em for the estate)
I'd have the decat and race tube (just a straight centre section), then some kind of performance backbox, maybe just an expansion chamber?

Welding and fabrication projects undertaken, contact me for more information.

Thing is they have a whole system - even a dedicated Hoffmann 306 backbox with a chrome tip which mimics the OEM one. Maybe they would do a deal on the whole system?
Just not sure whether the race tube will make the car too loud...

Think I've decided on what I'm doing now, will see if I can get a deal on the Hoffmann decat and backbox and keep my centre section if it's in good condition...
Got to wait a couple of weeks mind, after that twat f*cked me over on eBay

Get a quote for one from longlife etc. I've a got a full 2.5" stainless turbo-back exhaust, was ~£300 IIRC, with a lifetime guarantee. That's with 2 boxes, a mid, and a backbox, and I think it's spot on, quiet on the motorway, but sounds good if you give it beans.

2.5" from the turbo down to where the cat would join then down to 2.25" with a decent backbox at the back, no need for a midbox IMHO if the backbox is good... A single backbox will remove all the noise as long as it's packed well enough...
No real need for 2.5" all the way back....

Decat and new backbox ordered, will see how it goes with the OEM centre section. If it's crap I will be ordering me a race-tube.
 All for £91.

Will report back on how good / crap it is.

Hoffmann Backbox and decat pipe turned up today - ![[Image: FB6C7750-0B05-429A-BDF0-CE0315964B05-258...0EF7B9.jpg]](http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq25/chris_rx71/FB6C7750-0B05-429A-BDF0-CE0315964B05-2583-000004BD8C0EF7B9.jpg)
What are your guys opinioins on painting the backbox black?

I have some high-temp engine paint kicking around. Just worried that because it was a cheap item the welds could rust quickly if not treated. With a coat of paint, it might last a little longer?

Looks very well made anyway. The tailpipe seems at an odd angle, but until it's on I won't know how level it is.

It's all I wanted though - I don't want a big aftermarket system. I like the OEM look and this has the correct tailpipe (if the angle is right!) Plus it only cost me £35!
