Yea it goes up. My wheels are et20 but I've put 20mm spaces on the rear for better fitment.

Offset goes down with spacers doesnt it? Would want 20mm spacers behind et40 to get it to fit i thought.

Yes Tom has got confused in his first post.
I have 16' et20 borbet A's. I am running 20mm spacers, which gives you ET0.
I run bigger brakes than standard, my borbets don't even have enough room for a finger tip between the alloys and wheels.
If your running standard brakes, you ET40 alloys should fit with 20mm spacers. But it might be worth going to 25mm spacers as it kind of depends on the wheel design also.
