So yeah, turns out the lifters weren't too bad afterall, barely any damage.....
Well ok, maybe a little pitting on these two....
Oh yeah, bit of a hole here too....anyone good at welding??
Oh and ofcourse the egg shaped cam for the lolz....
So yeah, what is it VAG are renowned for? Reliability and build quality you say?
So yeah, just a word of warning really to anyone thinking of buying one - this was a 52 plate (not even 10 years old when it broke!), only 136k miles, Full VW dealer service history!
Thought I'd give y'all a laugh anyway.
*Btw, for anyone wanting to start a 'mass debate' about VAGs being shit - don't bother, this thread is for the lolz.
Cheers
Tom

It's a shame you don't get power and economy AND reliability lol. This is a 1.9 btw, I thought the newer ones were better lol? Guess not then!
Hoping to get the dmf off tomoro....wonder how bad that'll be lol!

Pulling things apart is very different to pulling them apart AND putting them back together! There's a lot of things I couldn't have done, or rather wouldn't have had the confidence to do - injector timing cams and new cambelt and stuff.
But as I said before, the dmf was shot, and with looming MOT it needed several parts....wishbones for a start!

Pretty sure mines 16. According to the sticker on the inside of the fuel cap it is!

Nope when i took it to a skoda dealers for its mot last week (which it failed )and told him it was shit, he told me VAG fobbed the 1.9 off on skoda seeing as its their base brand and used the much newer 2.0 in the VWs and audis. Seat used to use the 1.9 till very recently as well apparently.

Oh right haha, fair enough then, don't know much about skodas lol. But I do know that the 150/130PD stopped at mk4 golfs. And then the 110PD (iirc) was just a crap engine they stuck in the mk5 and did away with it after that. Didn't know skodas still had them though lol.

TBH its not a bad engine. Its solid and goes quite well but its very noisy and unrefined. But then again its probably about a 400 year old design!
