206 SERIOUS PROBLEM!!!!!
#1
i have a 206 i picked up with a few minor problems,

one being a serious wonder in the steering, i thought it was the rack and changed that, yet the car still drifts side to side while driving

bushings and ok,ball joints and tres are alright,no play in the steering colum

have been advised it could be the sub-frame,

any ideas or directions i can take????

new tyres
brakes ok
tracking done after new rack
rear beam is fine no play!!

its not a small wonder either,it jumps maybe half the width of a car
the only thing i can compare it to is an old tractor with play in the steering

Strip the wings and front end off. Check for accident damagw. From what youv already had done it sounds like somthing is seriously out of line. I.e had a bad smash on one side and hasnt been jigged out correctly.

Just cos the trackings been done doesn't mean its good! I had tracking done twice on the 106 and it was still crap.

its a 206, they're shit and horrible to drive from my experience.

sorry nothing very helpful to add, but the only 206s I've driven have felt disconnected and horrible but had nothing wrong with them.

this is far more serious than tre or play ball joint play, its very dangerous to drive,it was my cousins old car,she said it just got progressively worse until she was too scarid to drive it,im thinking something along the ling of cracked sub-frame or mounting points.

Have you checked the subframe bolts are tight?

And you'd be surprised how much a f*cked bush can ruin handling, accelerating on a slip road the last week I owned the golf it was nearly pulling me off the road, trying to correct it all the time, turned out the wishbone bushes were both split so the wheels were pulling in different directions!

i would say crash damage is most likely! did you get it cheap? owner happy to see it go? they seem nervous when you were having a look around?

not just the car you have to look at when viewing a cheap car unfortunately, honesty seems to be a thing of the past!

This, my missus has a hdi dturbo and it is great to drive in the twistys. I would take it somewhere else to get the tracking checked again.
