A little bit of poo came out..

So yeah,

I was coming off the M329 junction onto the M4 earlier today and I changed down to 4th as I usually do to boost past the slower cars, peaked boost at 24psi and heard this ungodly *pop*.

Black smoke came billowing out the back and I feared for the worst, boost gauge read 0psi and I was right down on power.

Nursed it into a retail park nearby and had a peek, the bloody outlet hose on the turbo had popped off, to my surprise it wasn't damaged and even the jubilee was still roughly in the right place.

Question: I've managed to sort of push the hose back onto the turbo, but I cannot for the life of me get access to tighten the jubilee, the inlet manifold is being a right lady garden. I'm now peaking boost at 7psi and hearing this huge whoooosh noise which of course is air leaking from that connection. Sounds pretty cool tbh. Any tips on access to that jubilee?

Cheers Smile

Jack under sump, undo engine mount on left side, let jack down gently (Watch your radiator!!!!) and pull engine forward, should be able to access the turbo then to do it back up..

Breath in like a boss, it's a lady garden & you will have loads of cuts & a black arm up to your shoulder but it's do-able!

^ What Dave said! Little tip, after dropping it - wedge a scissor jack in between your inlet mani and firewall and wind it out a bit to help push the engine forward some more.. also wipe the turbo outlet and inside of pipe of oil toby. I kept popin' the pipe off even with 2 clips, annoying!

7mm socket and a lot of extensions round the back of block take air inlet pipe off that helps too simples Smile

You can get to it from underneath if you're a bit of a contortionist iirc.... I had to do this a few times in the past....

You can do it fairly easily without even taking the engine off the mount I found, you need to make sure the jublee is on clockwise, with the nut head on it at the back pointing passenger side, then you just just put your arm in with 7mm socket on screwdriver and do it back up, best to put clamp on the turbo, start putting the pipe on, then slide it up onto pipe and push pipe all the way down, locate clamp and do it up, but if it blew off before, are you sure the clamp isnt poop? if so change it for some that isnt, as it should never blow off there if the clamp is ok....

I've never popped that pipe off with decent clamps, as Darren says...

Get a decent HiTorque jubilee on there, and it should never undo.

Yeh that is an absolute shit pipe... I find with my inlet, it's a piece of piss to reach it.
But would probably follow saves guide. Be aware to clean the surfaces for oil residue mate.

Sorry............why are we taking engines off mounts and jacking things up again?............................

just stand at the passenger side wing and you will find you and reach with a 7mm 1/4" socket and your right arm along the back of the block with no pissing around required!

Just make sure you get all the oil off or you will be doing it again later today when it comes off again!

Definatly this.
No need to jack it up or whatever.
When I was doing mine I would remove the air filter pipes from the top middle of the inlet Mani area to filter then you can easily reach around the inlet mani

^ahh, i forget my turbo pipes and outlets are all funky lash ups. The pipe is a thick walled lorry pipe, that's smaller diameter than turbo outlet.. Brutal force/swearing required

As mark said easy enough standing on passenger side and leaning over and in very hard to explain, but no need to drop engine mounts and shizzle

This worked for me, I'm too much of a fat c*nt to get it from underneath. Much better access with the inlet pipe off too Wink
