All assuming the current government stays in power and actually implements it as well.

It'll never work without realistic viable alternatives being developed. It's a pipe dream and TBH in 20 years won't matter as most of your jobs will have been replaced by robots or will be able to be done from home.

Given that amount of time, and the likelyhood of floods, Dumdum could probably have killed off a large percentage of the rallyes by then

The one thing that bugs me is that its all down to a Euro law that we are not conforming to regarding targets that have been set. But hows all this going to work with the uk on course to leave the eu. Are we still going to follow the euro law or are we going to stand on our own two feet and be inventive for once. Doubt it but would be nice to see.

It's about meeting targets for emissions, nothing to do with European laws. This country was pretty instrumental in establishing these emissions targets, so it'd be a bit weak if we couldn't meet them ourselves. I'd be surprised if it's even big news by the time it actually comes about, 23 years is a long time. Technological progression and other "passive" government policies discouraging use of ICEs will have reached a tipping point with the move towards alternative forms of power anyway.

Lol, we invented a huge proportion of the 'silly' laws that everyone moans at the EU for, in most cases we had legislation in place long before the EU decided to adopt it...

I still think we could be running ICE's. Bioethanol and biodiesel are genuinely viable as fuel but we don't have enough land to grow enough crops to satisfy our current demand for fuel.

Things have changed ALOT since 23 years ago. Hell even 10 years ago electric cars were not easily available and were a laughing stock, now you can go out and pick up a tesla that will beat most road legal cars and then drive you to the shops.
Alot of manufactures are giving up with internal combustion engines now anyway or at least are in two minds about whether it's worth investing huge amounts of money into research and development for something that's becoming quickly redundant due to stricter emissions targets. Yes we'll all miss the rawr of a petrol engine but to be honest its hard to argue with the shear torque electric motors make

What I want to know is how will the government cope when every is in tax free electric cars, no one is buying petrol or diesel so no fuel duty tax. Roads will be a mess that's for sure...... well more of a mess than they are now.
