later this year, my father is thinking of selling his car for something else.
i've had a quick look at "We Want" & "We Buy" sites and what they want to offer is laughable.
the car is a 2005 (55 plate) 206 1.4 HDi  5-dr Verve, in blue with alloys. (£30 pa tax).
could he do better eslewhere, other than a trade-in?
thanks.

A private sale will yield the best sale price in most cases. Sites like that do so because they are going to sell your car on for a profit by selling it at what the market rate is, hence you sell them your car for under the market rate and accept that you got less money in exchange for less hassle.

Try for a private sale, I'm not sure what the going rate is though??
I think now the price of scrap has dropped so much it's had a knock-on effect to the lower end of the car market.
My mate was telling me the other day you can pick up rough old Polo's for £100 with MOT, since there's little to no value in the metal people would rather bump them on for next to nothing rather than be stuck with a knackered old car.
