Hi all. My 1.8 has developed a major coolant leak. Water is pouring from between exhaust manifold and head. Are there core plugs hidden there? Any other ideas?

Welcome to the club. I don't personally know anything about the 1.8 blocks I'm afraid. Something like this may well enable you to get a look behind the manifold to see where it's coming from though. Rolson 60515 Two LED Telescopic Inspection Mirror: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike.
