xsi gear stick shaft replacement help

hi i used to own a 306 xsi 8v fantastic car.
now Ive got a 2000 xsi its ace but the previous owner cut the gear stick in half (not sure why but its annoying).
can you just replace the shaft or do you have to change the whole thing.

Unbolts at the bottom. To see how to remove it search for the guide to fit a quick shift. Niall wrote an awesome guide an he explains how to remove. Then instead of fitting the quick shift just fit a new shaft

Easiest to change the whole thing rather than just the shaft. 4 nuts inside the car (under the leather gear cover) and one long bolt underneath attaches it to the linkage.
