west yorkshire electric buffer?
#1
Anyone in the west yorkshire/bradford/leeds area got an electric buffer/polisher (?) I could use to help get rid of the orange peel on paintwork?
I've tried using halfrauds rubbing compound but seems to have little effect Sad

Will happily return the favor with beer tokens n the like Big Grin

If its bad peel, you want to flat it back with lots of soapy water and p1200 then tcut it. Takes a fair bit of elbow grease but I managed to do my entire car in a day and it made a massive difference. Also want to get some megs paint cleaner for after the tcut and a good wax

Taking sandpaper to it just seems sick and wrong
I fear i'd press to hard or rub too long and take paintwork off again :/

Cutting compound is pretty much liquid sandpaper mate. If you're worried about pressing too hard just try it on a not-too-visible area then adjust to suit. I suspect you'll do the same as me - be far too careful to begin with and take an hour to do half a square foot lol.

Worst case scenario; you rub a bit hard and thin the paint a bit and i'll help you respray the panel over summer. Pretty unlikely though, you'd have to rub pretty hard for a while to go through with 1200 grit.

This. Providing you keep it all lubed up, you'll be fine!

Well had a crack at it, must admit nearly shat myself when I washed off the soapy water and saw it all matt but an hour of t-cutting later and I've gotten most of it back to being shiney
the orange peel is largely gone and the lumps in the paintwork have been removed, however the difference in colour is still really obvious to me
