Update:
The rev counter started working again. No idea what caused it to be functional again, but I am happy :)
What is also interesting is that the oil presure gauge is also working well now...... |

The circuit board looked okay to me. I have a spare cluster that I can try. Stupid things are just so damn difficult to get out, even with steering wheel removed.

Yes. All wings are the same... including the convertible ones. Only difference between phase 1 and phase 2/3 (larger hole where indicator is located). |

The cat I have, comes from my XSI 2.0 8v. Not sure if it is genuine. It looks genuine if I compare it to my genuine GTI cat.

I have one from a 2.0 8v which should fit a 2.0 16v as well, according to ServiceBox.
The GTI6 one has a different shape and does not fit the 2.0 16v XSI. |

Yes. Looking back I think I was ver y lucky the bolts did not snap!
Now the car drove >400km without any issue. |

I vacuum cleaned them first. Then I used PoorBoys APC to clean them. Just brushed it in, left them for a few minutes and then used an extractor (simple small one) to clean them.
