The 3.9 Rover V8 produces 190bhp dead on. Absolutely wank for a v8, but for that sound, epic. And they're cheap to modify, but thats down the line. I've been reading on piston heads that ford V8s are favoured more for dropping into cars.... Just found a mustang engine on eBay RE: Ell Diablo - Midnightclub - 24-10-2013 Out of interest, any idea what the rover V8 weighs? RE: Ell Diablo - Grant - 24-10-2013 I shall find out. They are an ally block and head so at a guess, no more or very little more than a GTi engine RE: Ell Diablo - Grant - 24-10-2013 The whole engine including gearbox weighs 220kg according to piston heads RE: Ell Diablo - Midnightclub - 24-10-2013 That's interesting.. The m60b30 (without g'box btw) weighs around 145kg and the 1uz clocks in at about 175kg.. It's pretty amazing to think a 3 litre V8 can weigh a shade more than a 6 lump! RE: Ell Diablo - Grant - 24-10-2013 Well it's ally block and head, whereas the GTi block is steel and so is the head. But its crazy that its going to come in at not a lot more than a '6 engine. RE: Ell Diablo - Midnightclub - 24-10-2013 Yeah i know the material is different, just didn't think that with an extra 4 cyclinders and extra litre capacity it'd be THAT close lol! RE: Ell Diablo - Dum-Dum - 24-10-2013 The rover will be awesome if you get a big edelbrock (sp) or holley 4 barrel carb sitting on top of it. You will find it difficult for space rear mounting it with the length of the gearbox then needing a prop and a diff all in the space between the back of the seats and the centerline of the axle. You could always run a 306 box with 2 custom made shafts one to the front and one to the back to make it 4wd RE: Ell Diablo - lolsteve - 24-10-2013 How about a kv6 engine? Might find it easier to fit in the front RE: Ell Diablo - Niall - 24-10-2013 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_75 Get one of these, rip the rear gearbox out and use that with the rover V8 in the front. Done! RE: Ell Diablo - Grant - 24-10-2013 Great idea, would save a lot of work and be epic, but find me one for a decent price lol RE: Ell Diablo - Niall - 24-10-2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-75-TS-Alfetta-Gear-Box-LSD-Milano-/131019682542?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AAlfa+Romeo%7CModel%3A75&hash=item1e8161b2ee Not quite sure how the clutch works but i think thats a minor thing in comparison to the rest of this! RE: Ell Diablo - Grant - 24-10-2013 At a guess from looking at the photo: You would have to weld a plate onto an input shaft, and weld the input shaft into the crankshaft/onto the flywheel. -I would guess the clutch cable is the bottom right cable, with the reverse light switch about half way along sitting on top. This is screaming mid engined RWD 306 lol RE: Ell Diablo - Niall - 24-10-2013 no no no Gearbox at back, engine at front. Almost perfect weight distribution! Engine, prop-shaft, in to the clutch/gearbox and out to the wheels. Alfa mounted the gearbox/clutch in between the rear wheels for better balance How about using an Alfa setup from a gtv/75 v6 and rear mounted gearbox with LSD? Beat me to it Niall RE: Ell Diablo - Dum-Dum - 24-10-2013 Just a thought, the 3.0 V6 in the Alfa 75 makes near enough the same power as the RV8. How about just using the whole running gear or even the whole floor pan and then you get cool shinys like inboard rear discs too. Needs a transfer box but ιt would be awsome ɑnd everything you need for front engined rwd!! Sounds awsome aswell! Shakes the whole car when reved! We been drivin ιt around, ιts basically rwd at the mo ιts hella fun! Kinda lιke drifting the qe2 in the wet lol, buckets of tourques Ell Diablo - devils_fuel - 24-10-2013 (24-10-2013, 08:08 PM)Jonny b Wrote: Kinda lιke drifting the QE2 in the wet lol, buckets of tourques RE: Ell Diablo - Niall - 24-10-2013 (24-10-2013, 08:03 PM)Dum-Dum Wrote: Just a thought, the 3.0 V6 in the Alfa 75 makes near enough the same power as the RV8. I would of thought you of all people would realise the more cylinders, the better! Very tempting, But I am really not looking to do this 'till next summer. But I never thought of getting a Jeep Cherokee whole. The do crop up fairly regularly, good shout Jonny! This would by no means be a power trip, just epic noise. Obviously if I am faced with two engines for a similar figure then the more powerful would be desirable, but things like servicing costs etc are a large benefactor. The rover V8 is very cheap to maintain. Plus it s a V8 Just looked up clutch prices for the Alfa box - £209 for an OE quality Pattern part! RE: Ell Diablo - Dean - 24-10-2013 RE: Ell Diablo - V8 Engine?? - laurence_13 - 24-10-2013 We've got a car with a rover v8 in, Running at 360bhp on fairly low boost... I can't remember the work thats been done to it off the top of my head but I know its running injectors and a megasquirt ecu, and that it sounds amazing driving through backstreets. If youre interested I can probably find the list of the work thats been done on the engine to get it to that power. If not, do it anyway, that'll be one insane 306 RE: Ell Diablo - V8 Engine?? - Niall - 24-10-2013 (24-10-2013, 08:58 PM)Grant Wrote: Just looked up clutch prices for the Alfa box - £209 for an OE quality Pattern part! Haha yeah there is that, but then mind you, between us we've done it enough times to do it blindfolded on a 306 now... RE: Ell Diablo - V8 Engine?? - Piggy - 24-10-2013 I thought this title was a troll...haha...epiclly happy to find its not. those v8s are so easy to tune and cheap to fix. dont go for the bigger ones though, 4.7 I think was biggest std but it buggered the blocks. the noise is awesome. straight pipe for the setting off of alarms!! oh and get elecrtonic ignition...serves well for reliability down the line RE: Ell Diablo - V8 Engine?? - Grant - 24-10-2013 (24-10-2013, 10:34 PM)Piggy Wrote: I thought this title was a troll...haha...epiclly happy to find its not. It's by no means an 'under progress' thing. It's a research and development thing ATM. Working out if it can be done (of course anything can be done) but on a sensible budget, with fairly well reliability. TBH I'm steering towards the 3.9/4.0 V8. Twin Carb, therefore easy to add positive manifold pressure to in the future for not a lot of cost RE: Ell Diablo - V8 Engine?? - Piggy - 24-10-2013 yeah dont go bigger than 4.0....they ruined the blocks imo. saw one mounted front, rwd, ina mk1 golf at action day this year...so it will fit!! RE: Ell Diablo - V8 Engine?? - Grant - 24-10-2013 Thats good to know then. TBH they're not that big dimensionally for a V8. |
