DW8 Timing belt cover / water pump bolt size? - jamesgmg - 02-07-2017

Guys, need some help with this if possible!

1.9d DW8 engine, cam timing belt cover (top/rear) shares a bolt with the water pump. Mine is missing and I'm doing the timing belt now.

I can't find a bolt that fits or work out the size. M6 seems too small, M8 too big. Don't have an M7 to hand to try.

Does anyone know what size this bolt is or have one I can buy?

yeah they are a funny size on those like youve discoverd. I dont have a dw8 one lying about though. Peugeot should be able to get bits like that in for pence though still.

Looks like it's an M7 x 100.  I think the 18 means the unthreaded portion of the bolt is 18mm.

Awesome, that is so helpful, thank you!

Look a bit short considering they go through the belt cover also?

Mighty306, could I check that's definitely the parts diagram for the DW8?

Just my water pump is very slightly different. As in the guard up the left hand side doesn't extend above the bolt in question. Perhaps trivial!

I don't recall any engine using a water pump bolt to secure a timing cover, the cover bolts on the DW8 are all M6.

skip to 4:55, it's the very bottom bolt he refers to as 11mm.

I'll try and find a better image/video...

Struggling to find a decent pic, but its the one where I've added the red arrow!

I had selected DW8 from Servicebox but I think the only way to 100% guarantee you get the right schematic is to use you reg no or VIN no.

It being M7 seemed to fit in with what you said in your OP about M6 being too small and M8 being too big, but Welshpug seems to suggest they should all be M6 and he knows his stuff.

Haven't watched the vid but guess he's referring to an 11mm spanner.

Thanks Mighty306, I just got access to service box and put my VIN in, same parts diagram as you posted.

Genuine screw arrived, correct thread, but not long enough. After going through cover and pump, there is no thread left. Weird!

RE: DW8 Timing belt cover / water pump bolt size? - Mighty306 - 06-07-2017

Well that's frustrating! Hope you find a solution soon.

btw, the "18" in the part number is length in mm.

I've order some M7 25mm and 30mm off ebay. Should do the trick.

Often the manufacturers bolts/screws come with an integrated washer that can't be removed. Never found another source of these types of fittings. Anyone know what to search for out of interest?

Ah, yes, sorry, I obviously didn't have my brain fully engaged when I responded the other day. M7x100 would mean M7 x 1mm thread (which is probably a standard thread for M7). It's PSA's own weird n wonderful way to list thread sizes. 12x150 would mean M12 x 1.5mm thread.
