turns of a wheel bolt? - impotentials - 17-10-2015 As the headcing sugests, just wondering how many turns of a wheels bolt are required for a wheel to be safe? 7 complete ciculations okay? RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - Mattcheese31 - 17-10-2015 don't be silly . . . . RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - insomaniac45 - 17-10-2015 1.5x diameter for any bolt to be at 100% strength. (Taken from my Zeus book, (for engineers)) so if the diameter is 20mm, you will need 30mm of thread. RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - Poodle - 18-10-2015 Wheel bolts are 12x1.25 iirc. So that's 1.5x12=18mm. 1.25mm to the turn, so 18/1.25=14.4 turns. Although i'm pretty sure there isn't that much thread in a hub flange lol. Tbh if the bolt hasn't got full engagement just buy some the right size, they're not expensive. I assume you're playing with spacers or different wheels? RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - welshpug - 18-10-2015 6 turns min. RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - RetroPug - 18-10-2015 85Nm. If you work on cars and don't use a torque wrench then go and buy a torque wrench! RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - insomaniac45 - 18-10-2015 (18-10-2015, 04:13 PM)RetroPug Wrote: 85Nm. Too true. there are so many bolts with in the car that require them to be set at the right torque. too much and you warp the surface, too little and, well you know what happens ![]() RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - Matt - 18-10-2015 85nm? I've always worked to 110nm 110nm and at least 7turns of thread. No use torqueing wheels up if it's only got 2 turns RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - welshpug - 18-10-2015 85 is In every haynes manual I have for french tat, and I have lots of them (manuals that is) RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - Matt - 18-10-2015 Guess I've been going overboard then RE: turns of a wheel bolt? - Jonny81191 - 20-10-2015 (18-10-2015, 08:52 AM)welshpug Wrote: 6 turns min. Oh excellent. Gonna add anything useful? Or back up the statement with some information? To the op, as has been said, the thread should be fully engaged in the hub. |
