RE: Gti6 cat advice - GtiJimmy - 24-02-2016 Hey guys Just another quick one if anyone could help, im fitting a second hand cat when it arrives on friday, to my 6. After reading fitting advice forums im confused about whether 'paste' is needed, to go after the cat joining the cat to the centre pipe. Some people say 'NEVER' use paste to seal at the joins and some insist!? To me it seems like that although it would seal the exhaust a bit better with a paste, but it would also set hard and possibly cause me to damage the exhaust if i tried to seperate the two sections in the future? Anyone had exp doing their own cat? Thanks guys RE: Gti6 cat advice - welshpug - 24-02-2016 personally no, never use paste, always use o.e clamps, not had any leaking joins, only broken pipes! RE: Gti6 cat advice - RetroPug - 24-02-2016 Whether or not you choose to use it, it won't damage anything when taking it apart. Even when it sets hard it is usually brittle. It usually flakes off eventually anyway. RE: Gti6 cat advice - GtiJimmy - 24-02-2016 Thanks guys, ill leave it I think and just go with clamps RE: Gti6 cat advice - GtiJimmy - 26-02-2016 Disaster, the delivery service lost the cat!! So ive been refunded and now the car is all jacked up and ready to ... Go nowhere. So im gonna have to go for after market job- so can anyone please advise me on the best after market cat/ sports cat that will pass mot and result in similar to original performance? Thanks for all your heo so far guys, i was so hoping to get it sorted today but nah. ![]() Which brands do you experts recommend or use for your cat? Ideally id like to order and fit it this weekend. Thanks Which brands do you experts recommend or use for your cat? Ideally id like to order and fit it this weekend. Thanks RE: Gti6 cat advice - welshpug - 26-02-2016 the only thing I'd recommend apart from an o.e cat is a decat pipe or a custom made performance cat. RE: Gti6 cat advice - GtiJimmy - 26-02-2016 Thanks Welshy Well i dont want a de -cat as i want it ready to pass MOT and ive read about extra stresses on baffles without blah blah but even if it doesnt last too long i really want a cat that will be as similar as poss to standard. Do you know of any makes of aftermarket cats that fit well with the rest of my standrd 6 exhaust setup, that stand out from the test etc. Thanks again Anyone use a ECP one? Im getting desperate now ha RE: Gti6 cat advice - GtiJimmy - 28-02-2016 So my replacement originl cat was 'lost' in the post which may or not be true but its stitched me up a bit as I was relying on and prepping for that. So i went to exhaust specialist in wembley - powerflow- and they are offering a 200 cell sorts cat for 300-350, or a 400 cell one for 250-300 pending on labour etc. The brand theyre offering to weld into my drop pipe is magnaflow, my question is does anyone have good experiences with this brand? Also as this is the round ( kind of cocktail shaker looking thing ) as opposed to the flatbox mirroring the original. Does anyone know if a 200 cell of the round type would work well with the rest of the exhaust system which is orignal parts from Pug. Or should i go for a 400 cell flatbox ( aftermarket imitation of the original) . I only ask about the shape as im aware of a few people saying that its shape can really affect the back pressure etc. Should i go for magnaflow? Not surr if they do other brands part from their own custom ones? Any advice would REALLY help as im using google for all my exhaust knowledge and thetes nothing netter than the real thing Thank you RE: Gti6 cat advice - GtiJimmy - 28-02-2016 Guys would a 200 cell sports cat from be a bad idea to go with an otherwise std exhaust setup? I saw a thread about the steel monolith 'original lookylikey' from autobits.com would that keep the low end revs pulling better than the soorts cat? Thanks (14-02-2016, 09:19 PM)Eeyore Wrote: ive got standard cat i dont need as well. Hey mate Sorry to hassle you but I was hoping you might be able to advise me on something. The orignal cat i ordered didnt arrive and so im deciding on whether getting a 200 cell sports cat to go with my otherwise std exhaust setup or a similar looking to std one from autobits called a steel monolith lol, Any advice on whether you think id lose some low rev freedom with a 200 cell sports, as thats what im trying to minimize. Again sorry to bother you mate i cant seem to oost on the main forum atm Cheers RE: Gti6 cat advice BOLT ASSEMBLY!? - GtiJim - 11-03-2016 Does anyone know and can explain/post photo of which order the spring/washer and bolt goes in when replacing the cat?
