just a general wandering iv cleaned up the head and the bottom end and got a multilayer steel gasket, is it worth putting gasket sealant on aswell or just the gasket, some say no some say yes so just wandered what peoples thoughts were

No, only use the gasket.

I'd use just the gasket mate, that's what I've always been told

Make sure the block is perfectly clean too, think i'm paying the price for not doing a good enough job
