Yes it does, some say the dhy are more prone to throwing a rod out.

Just different engine code. D8a was mostly in the earlier 306s. Think just ph1s

Thats a dw8 isn't it?

Dw8 is the late non turbo, varient on the dw10.
D8a was mostly in ph1 306s as said and supposed to be stronger than the DHYs...
But imho I think its just hit/miss/luck if a rod does or doesnt go

I'll have to try to reply after actually getting some sleep lol, completely read that wrong.
Fact is the dhy engine is in millions of cars, most of which on forums like these are tuned, and that exponentially increases the chances of something going wrong, that then gets posted about and people get the impression of a reputation for the dh engine... I am sure if it was the other way round, ie the d8 block was more popular the story would be reversed

It's a myth I've spat 2 rods on a 80k da8

So all a myth and they are both the same then by the sounds of it

no, i reckon they are a bit different, but tbh i don't know exactly how, they wouldn't have a different code unless they were different . . . .would they? . ..
sorry for saying different so much . .

In my experience, dhys are either strong as feck and Will keep going for years with tons of abuse, or spit after 30 seconds making 150+hp...
D8As will regularly hold 150hp and loads of abuse, but some just randomly spit them out... Anything over 160hp and they'll invariably blow at some point, just a case of when.
Same goes for D8B, seen only a few pop on D8B, same for DHX, but feck all people have DHXs or D8Bs, remember my engine (D8B) put up with 300+lbft and 175hp ish for 20-30k miles...

Pretty sure I had a D8B with 30psi making 155hp for over 20k miles, hitting 6k all the time from cold masses of abuse and that didnt blow. When I changed the rods they were still straight as new
