Ok so the fuel pump on my xud lump has been changed recently and since then it doesn't sound right when idling and when it starts from cold it hunts and blows out clouds of blue smoke.

So with that in mind, I tried adjusting the timing on the pump but this doesn't help. In fact, I can only keep it running when the pump is fully advanced as I can make.

Do you guys think it's a timing issue or something else?

Forgot to say the smoking doesn't start straight away, but only after the glow plugs go off after their post heat
Tooth out on the belt?
Nope sorry I forgot to say I checked that and it's fine.
Sounds like air ingress if the idle's flapping about, I had trouble after fitting the 10mm which turned out to be air, couple of new washers on the banjo and all was sorted.

Are you 100% sure it's blue smoke? As grey/white puffs at idle can highlight timing issues
Yeah very sure it's blue smoke. Funny you should mention air ingress, I tried starting it yesterday and I had to use the grenade to prime it a couple of times before it would start. Failing one way valve on the primer maybe?
