So just took my timing cover off because of a wurrin noise and found the the belt had been rubbing against the cover and shredded the belt any idea how his could of happened?
Thanks jack
f*cked tensioner or idler pulley I'd guess, best get that changed pretty sharpish...
have you taken anything else off yet...be a bad pulley or water pump I expect.

fyi: you are SO lucky that hasnt gone bang
^^^ what they said. That belts ready to go bang any moment looking at the big split on it.
Surely there must have been quite a noticeable noise?
Yes there was that's how i cane across it that was a new belt.
changed the water pump and the tensioner.
Il get it changed tomorrow and check every thing over
Is the new tensioner fastened up correctly? When you put a new belt on obviously check for play in the tensioner and idler but check that the new belt tracks ok for a few mins with the cover off
Mine did this when the bearings went on the water pump.
Spent the last 5 hours out here couldn't even get the tentioner off so it will have to go to the garage Sad
