Full Version: Gauze/filter in oil line/turbo?

I'm replacing my t2 with a td04 at the moment. When I took the t2 off I noticed what looks like a gauze/filter fall onto the floor. I'm guessing this has come out of the high pressure oil line, or out of the turbo where the high pressure goes in?

Anyone noticed this before? Just wondering if I need to try and resuse it with the td04, or whether the td04 will already have one in it?

Thanks
Never seen one ever. I'd guess someone else put it there. Where did it come from exactly do you know?
I don't know, I've not seen it before either, and I've had the turbo of three times before. It must be a part that usually stays in somewhere so you don't normally notice it..
Hell, that is weird!
Na, thats a standard item. Goes in at the block end of the high oil pressure line.

I have something in my head about Ruan or some other of those knowledgeable boys saying about not putting it back in cos if it blocks your turbo's dead or something like that. I'm sure one of them will be along to correct me soon anyway!
I see, it must have been pulled out with the line then. I see what your saying about the possibility of starving the turbo of oil, but without it there is a chance of unwanted crap going through the turbos bearing, which you don't want either :/
it's standard yeah if you keep on top of your oil changes then it shouldn't get clogged . .Smile
I would throw it away before it breaks up and ends up inside the turbo.
I binned the one on my engine.

Why should it break up? It's been designed for this purpose so it should be fine, and if its not clogged after 130k I'm sure it'l be fine for another 20k or so.
Are these filters important to keep in or just bin it?
Mine was falling to pieces and looked like it was trying to make its way into the turbo
leaving it out isn't really an issue as i would say that a vast majority of xuds on here are running without the inline filter without issue
