I've finally bought the car I've dreamed of owning since I was a kid- an Impreza WRX.

Totally unmodified other than a quiet backbox because the original needed replacement, 89k miles, FSH, nearly 12months MOT and the correct colour etc. It's generally in pretty good condition.

I'm not driving it yet- still in the old daily Fiesta 1.6 tdci for now. However I've obviously test-driven it and driven it a fair way home from buying it, plus on local roads a bit. Eventually that'll go and this will be my daily.

Immediate plans are to do the cambelt, water pump and tensioners and any other servicing and maintenance it needs before it goes on the road, plus probably a turbo up-pipe as they stop the pre-turbo cat disintegrating and blowing through the turbo, help the turbo to spool earlier, are worth 5-10hp according to forums and dyno graphs etc. and are a PITA to change so easier to do it now while it isn't in daily use yet. Then potentially the mid-section of the exhaust between the cat/downpipe and the backbox to free it up even more and make it sound a little better. Don't want it silly loud but more bhp and little more noise would be good.

Eventually probably set it to pro-drive geometry settings and map it once exhaust and any other supporting modifications are done. Definitely want to get it tip-top mechanically and cosmetically first.

I was looking for a 106 gti/saxo vts/c2 vts engine to tinker with and then perhaps drop into something lightweight, like a citroen AX for a bit of fun.

However, a nearly-complete 88k mile 106gti (minus full exhaust incl. manifold, and minus seats & airbag) came up 35min away.

After a trip to collect it in my mate's disco it now sits on my drive.

It was being sold as a donor due to it being rotten and very rough (it is both), however it does start and stop despite being very loud with the engine blowing straight into the bay.

I'll pull the engine and then decide whether to repair the shell or just buy another car to drop it in. I haven't had a chance to fully look it over yet, but the driver's side sill appears to be made of something that isn't metal and there's rust in the rear arch next to a crack in the boot floor. As the aim was to build something that looked crap but was light and surprisingly quick, I've sort of fallen in love with the very untidy bodywork of this shell so we'll see.

Engine-wise I was thinking of not going too high budget but spending a bit to get decent performance. Possibly the most aggressive cams I can fit, exhaust and induction. However, I'd welcome any ideas! From reading 140hp at the fly is possible with the above and remapping which would be decent already.

Evening all

Selling my w reg China blue 2.0 306 cab with that mustard colour leather. Will stick it on eBay but thought I would try here first as I don’t want it being scrapped for parts. She’s in good condition for her age and mechanically I should spot on. Morning been started for weeks, went out to her today still started first time. The issue is the roof, still works manually burn not electric. Was working all summer the night one day roof went back up but the panel didn’t go down first. When I got the car it cambelt with a complete roof system so what ever it is you should have the bits to sort it. If you want pics I can WhatsApp them

Oh how I wish we still had the 1968 mk 1 1700 v4 petrol van tranny, it was brilliant.
Vosa has no record of it since 1991, the scrap man took it away

We are now really considering getting a tranny for touring, so we don't have to sleep in a tent any more. The missis just doesn't like a tent any more, but I'm ok using one though.

I can see the benefits of a van, just pull up out of the way and bobs your uncle.

What year diesel tranny would be the best to go for.

I will weld one up no problem and all mechanicals would be a delight, apart from the cost that is.

I would prefer an older van, no ecu, no air bags, no abs, no electronics at all apart form an alternator would be good. A short wheel base and low roof would also be suitable, so it would fit under the present car port.

Any advise please......as well as ball park cost of a suitable van to do up???

It's not anywhere close to Cully's van but it cost less than a grand all in, including the van purchase price and will be perfect for festivals and weekends away on a whim.
It has a 1K inverter and a 115ah leisure battery with split charge. LED lighting and the log burner mean I shouldn't use much power but I have another smaller leisure battery as a back up .
I do have more pics of the build but the forum uploader wont allow loads of them unfortunately.

Hi all,

So I finally done it, I've bought a car to replace my much loved HDI Dturbo daily.

I feel the car now needs a lot of bodywork to keep it looking as good as I'd like, I thought something a bit better on fuel and cheaper tax would be a good idea to.

I also thought it would be nice to have something with some modern features.

At first I was thinking I'd get 207, there was a nice one at work that I though would be a nice replacement but Karen didn't like them.

Next I thought the Fiesta would be a good choice but they are so common and bloody everywhere. There are always three different one parked next to each other at work. Yes I know they are a really good car and that's why there are so many of them.

Some how I thought of the DS3.

There were a few I was looking at all around the £4k and all around the 100k miles plus mark.

I'm not sure how but I got Shpock on my phone and I had a look on there. I found one that a lot of people were interested in and I thought it had sold but the next week someone messaged the guy asking if it was still for sale and I saw that he said yes so I got straight in there with an offer. The accepted as he needed the funds for his new replacement car.

The car is a Dstyle Plus, so Dstyle is mid range on the trim but then the Plus gives it digital climate control, parking senors, auto wipers/light, auto dimming rear view and heated electric wing mirrors.

It's powered by the e-HDI 1.6 90bhp and has the 5 speed.

I would have like the Dsport trim but this Dstyle with the Plus pack is not far off.

I popped over to his, 45 minutes up the road from me the Monday night. He told me that the car had some rust on the front wing before going up, I thought I'd have a look and I'd probably just get a replacement off a breaker.

On seeing the car you could tell it had a bit of a bump in the past and the wing had been replaced with a cheap pattern part. The front bumper wasn't lined up well ether. I thought it could be adjusted to fit better.

We went for a test drive and the car was very comfortable but you hear a sight knocking on the front suspension. I'm thinking this could be just drop links.

The HPI came back all clear and I thought I might as well go for it and bought it Saturday morning.

When I collected it

The rust

I drove it straight to work to get it looking more presentable. I didn't find a wing in time and thought I'll just clean up the rust a little and replace at a later date.

I'm not that keen on the drive at the moment, there is bugger all feel through the steering wheel and the gear shift isn't nice, I think that's mainly down to the cable shift and the electronic power assist for the lack of feel.

On removing the bumper you could see a lot more damage. The main slam panel was slightly bent and god knows how the AC is still working with the condenser in such a bad state.

There was also some bad hackary with the cable to the DRL and fogs.

The rest of the car seems all good.

First on the priority list is sorting the rust out, then if I can get the cable lubricated to see if that helps. Not sure what I can do with the steering.

I rubbed down the area to remove as much as possible treated the rust, sprayed zinc primer and then white primer. I thought I'd leave that to dry and harden over night.

I gave it a good going over with the vacuum as it looked like it hadn't been done for a long time I later found out the previous owner had it valeted before I viewed. I would like to remove the carpet to wet vac it. The guy lives in apartments so couldn't vacuum it and the valets have been doing a pretty rubbish job. I must have spent an hour hoovering, it was pretty bad.

Later I gave it a quick wash.

The next day I sanded down but found that I should have used some high build primer as the rust had pitted quite deep, so a few more coats had to be applied. I was a bit pissed off with myself as I wanted to start using the car this week and it would have been done if I had used the high build primer but I'd have to remove the bumper off again when applying the base coats so I couldn't be bothered to put the bumper and arch liners back on to take them off again later this week when I work on it again.

Thank god GSF, ECP and CP4L having their sales on so I've bought all items required for a full service all filters (air, fuel, oil and cabin) oil, pads front and back, discs front and back, drop links, Philips head light bulbs, some new carpet mats, aux belt and a full set of wipers for just over £300.

Bloody rear discs have the ABS ring and wheel bearing built in so were a lot more then I'm used to.

So that's where I'm up to at the moment. Hopefully get the paint work done this weekend and then service it.

oh look he got rid of his golf for the same car. No i didnt this is a leon. Its has the same chassis though. The golf was ok but ill be honest i was unimpressed with pd engines in genral. I cannot understand why they are so big. They might map to 200 bhpish but trust me they are not that fun. This one is a VP powerd engine. Which is essentially a ve pump with electronic control. I swapped the standard golf for this. It wasnt working when i bought it. pinning the 30 psi boost gauge and then collapsing the lifters causing a misfire. The guy i bought it off had essentially thrown a shit tonne of money on it then couldnt understand why it was broken and told me it was washing the bores. I knew from experince that this was not going to be the case so i agreed a meet up to go look at it. Turned up at the blokes workshop. He restores campers and does camper van conversions for a living. So we struck a deal that involved a straight swap of the cars plus I got a bunch of VE pump parts that i needed and some stupid wheels on the car that I hated but were worth a little money.

Anyway long story short is i got it home and looked it over. Was in vgc save a minor bits like side exit straight pipe, sump cracked, running fault, front brakes warped. picked up a standard exhasut system for £20, set of discs and pads for £50, sump for £22 and a turbo for £80 gt1749vb (pd 150). Over the next few weeks i fitted as much as i could in the time i had and began mapping it. Ive only just got the mapping sort of right. This is not my strong point by anymeans.

The plan with this is keep it for this years show season, see if i fall in love with it now im not working on it every 5 mins. the either replace or keep on as my main car.

Current spec is. Gt1749vb, .216 injectors, front mounted intercooler, egr delete, lowerd 50mm, audi wheels, full electric leathers, homebrew map, passat 130 inlect manifold, hollowed cat.

This weekend is the first weekend since ive had the car that im able to actually drive it without worrying baout blowing up and its pretty good to be fair. ill get some pictures up in a bit about whats been happening as i have none on my laptop they are all on my phone.

So this is the day I got it horrendous wheels.

Once the wheels had been changed first time.

Then with the new wheels on so I have a set for track.

Then I replaced the door as it had some lacquer peel on.

Gave her a good clean and that's where I'm at with her. It came with most parts already fitted I just had to sort other people bodges which IMO is way more time consuming than doing it yourself now I've done it. Also I now have standard headlights not the horrid things that were on there when I got it.
Also during the storm we had where we had a shite tonne of trees down in our area this blew into my car while driving at 60ish. Thankfully only damaged the grill but I did drive with it wedged in for about 3 miles as I was late for work

So I've had this for just over a month now, and am very happy with it. Has all the new tech you'd want on it (push button start, heated leather recaros, sat nav etc) and drives as well as a 306 but much more grunt. Ive wanted one of these for a while now, and after landing my first full time job after university I looked for one, and this was the best one around at the time. Goes pretty well and still does very very good mpg - 35 round the doors and when giving it death, 40 mixed and 45+ mpg on a long run. Standard figures are 200bhp/215lb ft on overboost, in which I have ordered the CP2 I-Flash which takes it to around 220 with more torque (which I cant wait to test out). Very easy to drive fast, but also very easy to drive normally, however these cars do suffer from a really harsh ride, but its well worth it. Looking forward to the next three years with it, as I plan to keep it for 3 years unless something drastically goes wrong.
