Hi all,

Sorry for the single post but I just came back here as I had an account back in 2015 and lost access, and basically just want to ask fellow 306 enthusiasts.

Unfortunately I have to part with my silver 1.4, my first car, as its no longer feasible to run. Basically, because I love the thing, I'd hate to see it go to rot in a scrap yard due to its increasing scarcity, so I thought I'd come and ask other people who appreciate the 306. Now maybe you'll tell me there's no need, theres plenty still about and mine isn't worth the hassle of holinf on to to pass it on to someone rather than get rid of it asap, but I'll give the details anyway.

Silver 1.4 2000 meridian petrol ~110000 miles. The car body and interior is great condition, the main issue is the engine is burning oil, so will die at some point. Other than a few other niggling issue, it currently still runs well other than the clutch starting to slip, so I'm just making this post to ask if its worth looking for a new home for breaking or restoration or whatever for it or maybe there is really isn't a point for its condition and monetary value. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question and you may tell me I'm wasting my time, it will be fine in a scrap yard but I thought I'd come and as ask because of its sentimental value. Located in Manchester, and don't have anywhere to store it. Heres my old thread, but photos are gone unfortuantely: https://www.306oc.co.uk/forum/showthread...424&page=2
Thought I had more photos but will get more if there is interest.

Hi all,

Looking to move on from my ten year ownership of this 2002 Meridian, 115.000 mile petrol 1.6i TU5JP Automatic. You can find many different photographs of it, including the kind of work that has been done over at my Project thread:

https://www.306oc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=34314

Over the last couple of years it's had work performed on it by Pug1Off in Brackley including all the suspension, rear axle refurbishment and also a new head gasket recently plus everything you see in the above thread has been done on it.

Reason for sale:
It was a genuine bit of fun and a hobby to have it lowered, parts replaced, detailing it, keeping it clean etc etc. Now I have a new car and I honestly do not wish to invest any more money in to this, it is becoming a bit of a money pit that I personally no longer want. The Heater Matrix has now perished at 115,000 miles and has soiled the front carpets, I have no way of drying the car out in the middle of winter and it's now sat on the street since I purchased a different car a few months back.

I've fitted a bypass hose to the end of the matrix connector under the bonnet, this way the coolant system can be pressurized and car driven. The car is due an Mot and I would ideally like this gone before April when the Insurance is up.

Bad Bits / Main things of concern:

Heater Matrix needs replacing / No cabin heater

The exhaust manifold (TU5JP engine) has a hairline crack and leaks exhaust fumes. This has never been picked up on Mot's but has been like it for some time

Central Locking no longer works correctly

Quite a bumpy ride with Bilstein B6's on it. Not my cup of tea anymore

What do I want for it?
I do not have a particular amount to mind, I am mainly looking to part ways with it so a token amount from a fellow board member would suffice. I understand that a lot has been spent on it and I am certainly not expecting to make any of it back! If you're interested, feel free to make an offer.

Where is it?
Lets just say I'm around the M25 Junction 9 area, Leatherhead/London etc.

Anyway, all the best and thanks for reading! Any questions just shout!

Over the last couple of years the car has had loads of work done to keep it in shape, rear beam rebuilt & lowered, Blueline coilovers up front, all brake pipes replaced with copper, new glow plugs, black leather CC front seats & black half leather GTi rears, SP door handles, GTi gearknob, 15" alloys, new clutch, cambelt, water pump etc. In 2017 the instrument cluster was replaced for one with silver dials which resulted in the mileage jumping from 95k to 160k. Currently has black dials but with pink backlighting but easy to change if not to your taste.

Asking price currently £250 with standard front struts, £375 with the coilovers. Worth more in parts. (if we end up putting a year's ticket on, price will obviously reflect this). Also advertised elsewhere

Pictures to follow, any questions feel free to ask.

*****photos to come when I can get them uploaded, or the missus can send through facebook*****

Unfortunately due to some recent issues with neighbours, we are having to downsize our collection of French cars & as such here is our green cabby for sale :'(

The car is a 1999 Ph.3 in Venetian Green, full black leather SE spec. Electric roof slightly tatty around the back window but works as it should. MoT till end of August, car has about 93k on the clock although the engine was replaced by the p/o about 40k ago.

Currently just needs a water pump (leaking) and a set of tyres to be ready for summer, we wouldn't be even thinking of selling if we had somewhere to keep all the cars! Drives really nicely, bit of a squeak over sharp bumps think it might be an ARB bush but other than that it pulls really well and the engine is in rude health. (We had a direct comparison between this and a parts car we bought with 150k & the difference in power/willingness was very noticable).

Speaking of parts car, there's a fair few cab specific spare parts which can be included if wanted. This includes a spare roof (black though not green) and electric/hydraulic bits, lights, window regulators & even the aforementioned engine/gearbox from the parts car.

Asking price will be £700 ono, any questions/bits I've missed due to stress feel free to ask! Will also be other cars for sale shortly
CAR IN A NUT SHELL:
This is my fourth 306. Always wanted the rarest and a Black Rallye was it. Bought it from a well known member of the 306gti6.com club and have cherished it since. I've been to numerous shows, been to Switzerland and back, the Nurburgring etc. It's even had a couple of different looks over the years. I've LOVED owning this car. But it hasn't turned a wheel in two years other than when we moved house and I just don't use it anymore. Car IS modified, but it's all the sort after "good" performance enhancing mods. Bodywork is a little tatty as funds have always been on more fun stuff.
Had total suspension refresh 2017, with Berlingon P-Bushes

Paperwork:
Almost Full Service history, I have it's very first service (Stamp and receipt), and pretty much everything since, including all old MOTs and (just for fun) some old tax discs. The receipts I've got occupy 2 full binders and I've every receipt from 2014 until now, including the new engine and the most recent belt change etc.

IN SUMMARY:
I've most likely forgotten something here. Like I said I've loved this car and, in an ideal world wouldn't be parting with it. I've had some great times with it and I'm really hoping it goes to a fellow enthusiast that will maybe have a little bit more time than me to use it! I've been around the 306 owners clubs since 2006 and genuinely have nothing to hide. If you're mechanically minded (or have a friend who is) great, come and view. We can talk cars and poke around it all you want. We can jack it up, take a look underneath, whatever. If you're not mechanically minded I can provide my mechanic's number who would be happy to verify anything mechanical on the vehicle.

It drives beautifully, has had a new engine, just had the cambelt etc. replaced and just had a major service and work. Other than the bodywork is a little tatty (It's 21 years old!) the car is sound. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

PARTICULARS OF SALE:
Please please please come and view the car before attempting to haggle on price. These things are better done in person. This sale is genuinely because I don't have time to use the car. It's not because I've been made redundant etc. so I'm not after a quick sale. I'm happy to wait for the right person with the right offer.

Car ISNT insured or taxed so cannot be driven on the road unless you are prepared to tax and insure it yourself before hand. And then test drives will only be given if you can prove your have FULL Comprehensive insurance OR I am holding the entire asking price in cash in my hands.

Car is located in the East Midlands, less than 5 minutes from the A607, A52 and A1. I will NOT ship the car abroad, nor entertain anyone that wants to do business in any other way other than arranging a time / date to visit, looks at the car, makes me an offer, pays me (Cash or Bank Transfer), signs the v5, insures it and taxes it themselves and drives away. Sold many cars on the internet before, you know who you are time wasters!!! I work Mon-Fri 8-5, so car is only viewable evenings and weekends (With prior appointment!). If you want to view during the day during the week, then I'll need a £100 REFUNDABLE deposit to be bank transferred to me so I know you are genuine for me to take a day off work to be home for the viewing.

If you're wanting to agree now, pay later. That's fine, give me a £100 deposit (Cash or Bank Transfer) once you've come to view it and pop back later with the rest. But the car won't be leaving my property until full agreed amount is exchanged. Grantham train station is only a 10 minute drive so happy to pick you up from there if you want to train in to pick up.

If you're going to be paying the full amount in cash I can only accept the cash during BANK OPENING HOURS, as I'm not comfortable having £££ in the house overnight. Unless you've paid me a deposit I reserve the right to sell it to someone else.

It'll come with about a quarter tank of fuel, a Haynes manual, and various other (small) spare parts I've accumulated over the years.

I've got a 406 here too. It was my daily for several years. Then it got parked up because of various reasons I thought there might be a need for a veg burner in the near future. That feeling has passed and I now just need the room.

It still runs with a fresh battery and a little bit of cranking.
It's manky inside because it leaked a bit.
Dash has been pulled apart (quickly) to remove gauges that were fitted.
Basically it's good for the running gear and brakes, and maybe a few panels and random parts off it.

I've been offered £160 scrap for it so basically that's what I'm selling it for.
It might be a cheap way to get some running gear and make a bit of cash back.
Or maybe there is no interest...

Warrington Cheshire, collection only. Price is firm, dont come and try to negotiate.
You will need a trailer !!!

This sold to a classic car collector within 24 hours. Maybe I should have asked for more!

The Pininfarina-designed 2.0L 16v Peugeot 306 Cabriolet is a very much loved and well reviewed car.

I bought mine brand new on December 21st 1999 so it's only had one owner - me! Being in London, I drove it less than I thought I would, so it's only got 67,250 miles on the clock.

Beautiful ‘Astor’ metallic grey, alloy wheels. Lovely.

It's had a full service history until 2008. MOT until August 1st 2020 (at it's last MOT the rear brake discs were identified as pitted - due to lack of use these may need replacing soon)

Fabric interior with faux walnut dashboard.

The car has been maintained annually (remembered more recent replacements have been: New handbrake cable fitted last year and new radiator and exhaust fitted approximately 5 years ago). The car has never been in an accident and has required no major repairs. Everything is original except the rear windscreen, which I replaced (the original PVC fogged, and I replaced it with a modern crystal clear back window last year).

The 5 gear manual transmission engine is a beautiful beast for this car: The 2L XU10J4R 130 BHP@5500, 4 cylinder 16 valve with a top speed of 124mph, and 0-60 in 11 seconds.

The body is low and sleek with a very gentle curve - giving a drag coefficient of 0.32; When new, it has about 200mm of ground clearance, but it’s rested a bit, so one has to be careful over speed-bumps.

It was the engine and the body design that got my money. It still looks stunning 20 years on. Not many designs feel that way to me.

You really feel the wind at high speed; it’s not very comfortable for back seat passengers over 60mph. It’s fine on the front seats. It hasn’t been driven that fast in the last few years - it probably needs some care and attention to bring it back up to spec.

But the engine has always, and continues to, run exceptionally well - for the past 8 years I have mainly used it for an annual UK camping trip (400 miles round trip). The engine has NEVER let us down. Some of the electrics need to be looked at - there is an occasional short that affects the indicators - and more recently there have been problems with battery drainage. We disconnected the radio and CD player (they are still there, just unplugged) hoping to resolve the drain - but it’s still draining.

There’s a well known issue on these cars to do with the battery connectors getting loose - and that happens in this car too. It’s never happened during driving, and it can normally be dealt with - but it’s worth knowing about.

Some small dents but otherwise NO rust to bodywork; most of the seals are deteriorating but not enough to let water in - except in really terrible weather water does leak on the seals.

The driver-side front electric window no longer works. It should be easy enough to fix if you are up for that sort of thing.

The electric hood still works but needs a helping hand (this could be the hood fabric stiffening with age more than anything), and could do with some loving attention. We assist the motor manually now! The hood has gone green due to being parked outside under trees for the past 6 years.

Fabric on driver side door (around handle) has come away slightly, as has stitching on driver's seat.

It is slightly 'creaky' at the front when you go over speed bumps - I'm no mechanic but could be due to shock absorbers?!

Picture on rear screen demister control button is missing.
Front towing eye has bent into small front round light (we had to be pulled out of snow one year!). So it looks like it has a slight squint.

Overall this car can be summed up as having amazing engine, bodywork and interior...I'm sure the seals, battery issues, green hood and 'creaks' could be remedied by someone who has the desire to bring this car back to its former glory!

All photos were taken today.
