Recently got my MOT (a pass, yay!) but with a few advisories and have had a few things of note since then.

Can't seem to attach images, so I'll include a link to the MOT results

Page 1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OOKwPem...share_link

Now, the exhaust blew on the way back and after *weeks* of faffing to get the right parts, I've finally replaced the catalyst. But now I have some symptoms with braking.

When I start the car, ABS light is not on, however when I press the brake even gently the ABS kicks in. After a minute or so driving, the ABS light turns on and remains on. After about 10 minues driving tonight, the handbrake light lit up for about a minute then went off (I understand this might be low brake fluid?).

Got some new brake pads for the rear on the way, but I feel like theres likley to be more issues given the mention of brake imbalance on the MOT sheets and the fact the ABS light is always on. So figured I'd come and ask if anyone has any pointers on where to look first.

Thanks very much

Hopefully someone has some info for me!

Need to replace the CV boot on the drivers side of my 2.0 cabrio.

Is anyone able to confirm for me whether the boots are the same throughout the model range, or whether the cab 2.0 has a different boot, as that what my searches seem to be telling me.
I'd be surprised of they are different but would prefer a confirmation prior to ordering the wrong one!!

I'm in Australia and ebay has them fairly cheap but they list them as being compatible with the 1.8 sedans / hatches..
If I search specifically for 2.0 cabrio ones I get listings from EU countries where the postage far outweighs the cost of the boot!!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Hello

Couple months ago my Peugeot started making "grinding" noise from the gearbox, the noise gets louder and more high pitched when accelerating but it can also be heard when in neutral, when i press the clutch pedal the sound disappears. Both diff bearings and 1of the input shaft bearings were replaced the clutch was replaced as well including the release bearing. But sadly after the first couple of kilometers i started hearing the sound again at first it wasn't so loud but after around 50 kilometers it was loud as before, any idea what could the problem be ? I am suspecting the other input shaft bearing that wasn't replaced but the mechanic that checked them before replacing them told me the other bearing was fine.
This is the sound while driving - https://mega.nz/file/yRRWlDBb#tYl8vWnNv7...VzgCrFkAcE

My car is a 1999 1.4 “Atlantic “ estate on a portuguese plate. It’s in fair condition (bodywise at least) due to the salt free roads , but it’s got about 160k miles on it with probably a fair bit of neglected maintenance.

What I believe it has got is a worn bush or bearing in the diff, as I can grab the inner end of the driveshaft and move it up and down in the oil seal about a cm or so!
I’ve yet to see a parts diagram so I’m not quite sure what’s likely to be worn.
I’ve had the oil out of the gearbox twice in quick succession in September and there was a lot of ground metal on the magnetic sump plug, both times.

So as far as identifying it, what I’ve got is 20CE28 stamped on the box. I’d really like to try to find another low mileage or rebuilt box while I’m in the UK BUT I could use some help finding a compatible replacement.

All the 20CE28’s I’ve found online are actually in Spain or Portugal.

What complicated buying spares so far is when I’ve used the VIN online I’ve been recommended parts that just aren’t the same as in my oily hands; for instance my driveshafts have 22 splines at the diff and 25 at the hub. The VIN apparently says otherwise!

What I’m hoping the wise on this site can tell me is:

Is there a way for me to identify a 22 splined box from codes, or from being fitted to another variant?

Or alternatively is replacing the worn parts in the diff viable for someone decent mechanics skills but only a basic workshop- definitely NOT an engineering set-up!

I’d be changing the clutch while I’m in there too.
I hope someone can help me out with some useful info
Thanks
Rob
My VIN for what it’s worth is VF37EKFXT32833677
The pug has me worried once again.
The car has started to make a new sound. The sound only happens when I come off the throttle and let the car rev down. It is sort of like a clicking sound but doesn't seem to be from any side apart from the front of the car. It is louder when the car is in gear revving down but can still be heard a small bit when in neutral.
The Clutch, release bearing and the seal between the passenger side shaft and gearbox was all done 5-8K Miles ago.

The sound almost seems directional when it comes to which way I turn and wether it be loud/quieter.
Since I have more than a few pictures and videos here is a link to a Mega with everything.
I'm glad I did do both as the n/s was heading the same way as the o/s. I'm sharing this because it was the first time I'd done front wheel bearings & can tell you it isn't for the faint hearted.

I thought I'd share what tools I used and what process I had to go through. I won't go through getting the hub off as there are lots of places you can look that process up. I bought the kit below to remove the bearings. You can theoretically use it to remove / press in bearings while the hub remains on the car. In reality you can't really do that because nothing is going to come out easily and in the first instance you definitely need the hub off the car to remove the circlip, which has likely corroded to the hub. The kit worked fine & has a few more bearing jobs in it but I doubt at the price it's good enough for really regular use.

In my case the circlips were really bad. They took a long time to get out. Luckily I'd watched this guy's vid on Youtube and ended up having to use all the tips & tricks / techniques he did, including for getting the outer race from of the hub.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9h2MI0QXz0 .

I only have a small inverter stick welder though but a 2.5mm rod worked fine to put a bead around the inside of the race. After that it came out pretty easily. (The heat helps as well). For getting the circlip out a friend who works in a garage suggested drilling a small hole to get behind the circlip with a pin punch. Next time maybe. I don't have a bench vice which made it tricky in places. I used an impact gun with the bearing press but if you were trying to use hand tools I think you'd definitely need to have the hub well clamped in a vice. Here's another good video showing one being done on the car if you're interested.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-39-6imZYCI

I think the bearings were probably original, which may be why they fought me the whole way. Only other thing to mention is that I had to cut a notch out of the cup which needs to sit in the back of the hub. This was the only way to use the cup with the ABS sensor still fitted in the hub. From experience trying to remove the sensors if they've been in there a while means terminally damaging them.

If anyone is looking for quality bearings I bought these Motaquip ones and they look exactly like the originals. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Wheel-B...2749.l2649

Sorry I didn't take any photos to share with you all. Was in too much of a rush to get the job done & tbh it took a long while as it was. Also had to sort out a driveshaft boot for the MoT. Thankfully it passed with just a minor advisory on the rear brakes.

So, a first for me yesterday. The offside rear solid brake line between the flexi hose & the caliper failed. Foot went right to the floor with virtually no braking. Was thankfully only doing about 15mph at the time, at the end of my road. Still very disconcerting when you think of the number of times you rely heavily on the brakes. Luckily have everything I need to fix it.
