Hello guys,

Long time no see !

What kind of thermostat are you guys running on the oil cooler plate ? 78º,80º or 92º ? What should be the best ?
The use for the car is track days and fast road occasionally.

I know removing the heat exchanger will take longer to cool the oil, but its still worth it ?

Is it possible to use the factory oil temp sensor and wire that to an oil gauge ?

Thank you guys !

I've started to change the cambelt on my 2000 306 XS but have struck a problem.
No matter how I try I can't get the new belt on.
I've changed over 20 cambelts in the past but this is my first Pug one.
I have the Haynes manual and have followed it to the letter but I just can't seem to get it to fit.
I have checked it with the old one and it is the correct size and triple checked the part number and it is correct.
I need to have it going for Monday morning so any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Currently looking at the 2.0 16v engine/box sat around out of the parts cabriolet & wondering if refreshing that and adding some boost would be a fun project to go in the White XS.

I believe the engine is going to be an XU10J4R (it's from a Ph2.5 306 Cabrio.) and have heard some good things about them although not had a moment to research much more than some YT videos and a quick squiz on here. Just after opinions/advice about how much power the stock bottom end can handle, potential weak points, OEM part-swap upgrades (like HDi rods in an XUD sort of thing) etc.

Plan would be to pull it apart and give it a refresh since it's done 160+k and felt tired compared to the 50k lump in the green cabby, so any bits to address while I'm in there would be good. (If I'm going to be swapping rods for example, rather find out before I buy new shells).

Cheers for any advice/experience. I'm off to do a bit more research now lol.

Hi everyone

Having had quite a few 306's in the past, none of which seem to be on the road anymore, I have recently picked up a non running Black GTi6 with no history, that was in need of a lot of TLC. I took the manifold out and replaced the starter and new gasket, and now she starts. I have also bought and started to replace dozens of OEM parts where she had been Max Power'd by a previous owner; she's starting to look more OEM. However the oil is pretty dark and the exhaust is filthy, amongst other signs of neglect, so I want to put her in for a service somewhere, and also wouldn't mind someone giving her a good once over on the ramps to see what else needs doing. The clutch feels terrible and judders a lot reversing up a slope; I know that could be a sign of a couple of different issues, but would like someone with experience of a GTi6 to see.

Anyway, I live in Kingston, Surrey, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a decent Peugeot Specialist that would do a proper job without being insanely expensive? I'm happy to drive within Greater London or just outside for the right garage. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to change the cambelt on a 1.8 16 valve (XU7 JP4) engine with the engine still in the car?

On mine, there is not enough clearance between the camshaft pulleys and the inner wing to get a torque wrench in to tighten up the camshaft bolts after the new belt had been fitted. These bolts are not something that I would like to leave up to my 'calibrated elbow'! Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Long time lurker first time poster. I have recently acquired a Peugeot 306 cabriolet (2.0l, phase 1).
According to the seller, the check engine light has been going on and off for as long as they had the car (10 years), but with no apparent problems when running.

I read the error code as 52: Mixture control, supply voltage, air or exhaust leak.

I am pretty sure that there are no problems with the exhaust, as the car just passed the annual state testing procedure (eq MOT) without any CO or lambda problems.

The only real issue I have noticed is that the car hesitates to accelerate if pushed hard. However, I dont notice any issues when idle or when accelerating moderatly (although I dont know how the car should feel when 100%, so nothing to compare with unfortunately).

Could it be the MAP-sensor acting up? Anyone know if this would fall under error 52, or if it could be something else?

Hello guys,

I hope y'all are doing fine.

I'm about to swap my S16 inlet to the gti6 one. I really don't know what to do with the oil filler thing...

Anyone did the same and has some pictures of it, please?

I guess the vacuum hoses I've it sorted. The brake booster vacuum hose connects directly to the vacuum pump?

The car: 1997 306 XSi. 2 litre 16V, automatic. The crankshaft pulley/ balancer fell apart. No big deal, it's easy to access.

Got the old on off, new one arrived and I went to fit it. Noticed there was no woodruff key in the crankshaft. None in the pulley though there is a witness mark in the pulley grove.

I haven't disturbed the lower cam sprocket, but I've noticed that it's woodruff key is recessed. To me it looks like the key for the pulley/balancer goes partially into the lower cam sprocket. Am I right?

Had a cam belt done a couple of years ago, and I wonder if the key was left out then. As far as I've been able to tell, the pulley/balancer key is only needed to locate it correctly for cam timing using the holes.

Bottom line is I think it needs a key for the pulley/balancer. I'm getting conflicting answers there. The Haynes manual mentions a key or roll pin.
Would any one have a lead on where I can get a key from?
Plan B is to get the plasticine out, make an impression and get a key and file it to size. I think that will work.

I should add that while I'm a mechanic, that was a long time ago. Most of my experience has been on my Holdens and the Buick.

Thanks an cheers from Australia ( where we're not quite into lockdown. Yet!)
