Yeah so what has been done to this that it now revs to 8k? (other than raised limit obviously)

Mine revs to 7650 and that still worries me that the valves are going to come flying out the bonnet lol

Mate it was called the 'turbo' Gti6 thread for a while and that's failed to turn up for all the talk, genuine shock the cams made it in tbh haha!

Why do I bother? lol... get flamed for posting anything. Friendly admin team here for sure!

I said it was either going to be turbo'd or supercharged. I think it will end up being charged eventually just because it's easier, which tbh makes me a bit sad as it would be very good fun turbo'd.

I am saving for another house at the moment so money is a little tight, so going down a cheap power route at the moment with this motor, cams, mapping and ancillaries for around 200hp so I can enjoy some track days over the next year. 8000rpm rev limit is no problem, I know of quite a few people who have been running them up to that on totally stock motors for a fair while... mine has an upgraded bottom end anyway, and some headwork too - so why shouldn't it be ok? If it grenades, oh well.. it's not my daily.

I have an engine I have stripped down on a stand in the garage which is going to be the "high boost" motor... don't worry, it will happen. As per everything with the DT that I said I would do - I did it... I will with this one too!

James, I think if you re-read Ed's posts you'll find he explained why he was asking and even apologised for how his post may have come across. Bit harsh to then make unfair comments about the staff here for showing a genuine interest. Just because he's questioning what's been done doesn't mean he's flaming you.

Anyway, it's a shame (in a roundabout way) to see you're thinking of supercharging it, it'd have been nice to follow a regularly updated project thread about 'breaking the mould' turboing a 6. I'll still follow your progress and am looking forward to seeing what you get out of it with cams and a charger Smile

I personally see this as a bit of a dig
(28-01-2013, 09:49 PM)Ed Doe Wrote: Mate it was called the 'turbo' Gti6 thread for a while and that's failed to turn up for all the talk, genuine shock the cams made it in tbh haha!

and also this:

(28-01-2013, 12:52 PM)Ed Doe Wrote: Ok that must have been a bit lost in translation, I wasn't having a go, and if it was taken as aimed at you then no offence meant mate! I was more querying the additional power of revving the engine to 8k, and the point of remapping if he hasn't yet fitted the cams.... But as I said, I take it back if he has fitted them, but reading through the thread there was nothing beyond that he'd bought some...

Looks like an apology to the other member and more ranting about what I am upto.

Anyway, no bother - not too worried! Smile

James, considering I know ed personally very well, I know for a fact he wouldn't of been having a dig. Unfortunately that's the problem with the Internet. Things don't always sound right and can very easily be taken the wrong way.

So the headgasket had gone well and truly, on all 4 cyls and the water jacket... set to work fixing:

While it was in bits, in seemed pointless rebuilding it to a totally stock motor, so had some headwork done and a few mods to keep me safe with big revs, and ultimately boost, inc head studs, rod bolts, uprated big end bearings:

Also while it was in bits, ditched the inlet resonator and fitted a bung:

Fitted a Rallye aux belt kit and ditched all the aircon bits and pieces:

and rebuilt:

Decided, as ultimately I'll be pushing a fair bit more power (it already flies with circa 200hp) some better stoppers were in order....

Finally got it all finished so decided to give him a good old clean...

Carl G did all the work didn't he? It's in his 205 GTi project thread on GTi6OC nestling in the corner.

Looks a nice car, fair play. Doesn't matter if it's cammed or charged, as long as you enjoy it and it serves the purpose you want it to. I want to finish mine but i've just got so much crap to do.
