Buy a 205. Why is it more classic than my 306 or am I missing something? http://thesteepletimes.com/a-performing-peugeot/

It's older..

It was one of the first and most successful incarnations of a "hot hatch"

The other manufacturers ran around like headless chickens for a few years to try to emulate it

The Mk1 Golf and the 205 are probably the top 2 iconic hot hatches. I can't see the 306 getting anywhere near them ever status wise. The 205 also went on to evolve into a world championship winning Group B rally car that knocked the Audi Quattro off its pedestal. That was quite an achievement! A lot of people that grew up watching that will now be loaded, you can't get any interest in a bank so they are ploughing it into 205's instead.

Money in a nice gti will be better than money in the bank anyway.

With some "savings" accounts offering less than 1% that's certainly not too difficult! Whether we're in different territory to the bubble that burst in the early nineties is the thing?
My mate Stu is certainly kicking himself now. I was on at him for years not to get rid of his when he bought a Civic Type R. He had a nice Miami Blue K plate, air-con, full leather standard 1.9, oops!

Or have never seen top gear, or any car program that talks even briefly about teh 205 lol.

A 205 would still make a tidy little investment, especially as a doer-upper.
