GTI6 beam fitted, front end now has more roll
#61
Yes was fully refurbished, bought it off a guy on the GTI forum, was fitted to car and was far too low, then the ride height was changed and set to standard the proper way, although now sits a bit higher on the left (although was done to 330mm apparently), will have another check on flat ground, but sure its a bit out. Is a GTI beam with solid mounts, hence much stiffer at rear than front of the car at the moment.

When it was raised back up to standard height, was it done with a dummy shock? If not, it's quite easy to get it slightly out side to side if doing it by eye or using a tape measure.

It's been a while since I've done a 306 beam, but 330mm sounds about right for standard height with 20mm torsion bars (which is what a GTi-6 beam has)

Wasn't done with dummy shock, just a tape measure, so guess there was probably a bit of error there, really unsure on what to do about stiffer front end now, don't want to have any more understeer from fitting the GTI ARB but don't really want to go any lower, hmmm.

from memory the DTurbo HDI has the same springs as a rallye.

330 is what I set all the standard 20mm bar beams for a 306 to.

Rallye was on 50s on the front and 55 on the back in that photo when I got it lol HDI was on 50s all round.
HDI didn't have AC removed then, has now though, why do you ask? Smile

ah, 55's on the back as well as 50's on the front will bring the nose down even further!

50 profiles? Putting the right size on would give you a bit more clearance for a start lol.

Lol, 55s make a huge difference, more comfortable, fill out the arches better, raise the nose end a bit etc... Smile

Just a shame they cost so much more!

That's the issue Tom, plus they don't do Michelin PS3s in 55s either :/

Yeah PS3's are just quite something! so what about mk1 xsara vts 1.8 struts/springs, should be stiffer and a similar height to 306 HDI due to similar engine weights?

Are there any VTS 1.8s? Pretty sure VTS was only the 2.0, essentially equivalent to GTi6.

The 1.8 is a fair bit lighter than the HDi though tbh, but I guess they may've done a sports one with uprated suspension, not sure.

The MK1 VTS had the 1.8 112 Tom Smile
So just wondering if the suspension on that will be stiffer, similar ride height and better (as it is a VTS model, and has better steering rack/axle already)

Crikey, that must've been disappointing for anyone buying one. lol

It's probably got the same springs as a 306 1.8 XS in that case, they sit about the same as the DTurbo HDi and GTi6 but have the lightest engine.

I don't know if the shocks will be any shorter though, as they are on the 2.0 VTS.
