Whats the difference with these shock kits?
#1
Going to be finally doing the suspension on my car. About time but I have been waiting for confirmation that the road up to my house is going to be repaired before doing them as it will just wreck whatever new ones I put on as well.

Anyway there are these 2 sets on eBay. Both are said to be B4 shocks. One set is much cheaper and both have different part numbers. Any ideas guys?

Thanks Big Grin

According to the bilstein catalogue the top link part numbers are listed for cars with standard chassis. 2nd link part numbers are listed for cars with off road suspension. No mention of the physical differences in the catalogue. Both sets listed for all 306 hatch models.

Nice spot. That's proper strange that is. It also says that on the Citroen that they fit they are a "max" damper up to 800kg or something daft.
Looking at the details they are for Peugeot partner vans as well.

Wonder if this is why I have heard people say B4's are brilliant for OEM and then also people saying B4's made their car handle bad. Fitting B4's which are designed for a van I am sure would probably effect the handling Tongue haha

That's because there's a lot of people out there who will praise anything they've spent money on, no matter what the reality.

It took me a bloody age to figure out which Bilsteins were the right ones for my 306 2.0 HDi.

Bilstein do have an online catalogue (Do not trust their bump stops / dust cover pack..I bought it and it didn't fit Undecided)

Anyway, the dampers you need are:

Bilstein B4 Front Left Hand Gas Shock Absorber / Suspension Damper - 22-045676

Bilstein B4 Front Right Hand Gas Shock Absorber / Suspension Damper - 22-045669

Bilstein B4 Rear Shock Absorber / Gas Suspension Damper - 19-019314 x 2

Well I have got the first set off the top eBay link and they have fit fine. A part number search said that they are correct and that they are for the hatchback peugeot 306 and they have fit okay. There must be so many variations of shocks its crazy.

Wonder what type you have got and whats different.

Thanks for the info though mate Smile much appreciated.

These are the front left that I have bought.

This is the front left you suggested

Different numbers but both seem to have the perfect car fitment so I have no idea whats going on there really haha.

Thanks Smile

Dampers are rated for the car's weight, so there'll be different damper ratings depending on the engine and body type (hatchback / cabbie / estate).

Then around 1997, Peugeot changed the specification for their dampers.

If all that isn't confusing enough, places like Argentina etc where the road surfaces are VERY poor, there was a different damper set which increased ground clearance lol
