Well, the clutch has just started slipping now, original 15 year old clutch, 5years of that on stage one...I would say that was good going...i dunno about anyone else's lol

Could have done with this not happening for another year really, but who am i kidding, it was going to happen sooner or later.

2 weeks left until my new Son arrives and i have one of britains dodgiest 306 HDi's Sad
Cant afford to get the clutch and rear beam mounts changed and can't afford to even fill the car up! LOL stay tuned as I may have to sell this and get something a bit newer...haha, or drive it till it dies, just can't transport my wife and son in that thing Sad I'm too scared...

Be cheaper to replace the clutch than get another motor man. Easy enough on a hdi as well. Dont even have to worry about pull type clutch.
On a break from 306oc for personal reasons. If anyone needs or wants me most of you have my number and or facebook messenger
Thanks for the good times guys n gals. I might be back. Who knows.

Standard map is a great idea from Piggy there to see if it will settle.
If you cant afford to run and keep this... How can you afford a newer car?! Just sounds like debt to me.

I think you and me are in competition for the dodgiest hdi tbh! My clutch is still holding at the moment, but the bite is really high! Also have dodgy rear beam mounts, plus a host of other issues, but I plain can't afford to chop it in for anything else, the cars got to be almost worthless in the state it's in. And my daughter is 3 weeks old today. Wink

I agree with piggy though, stick a standard map on there for now and drash on! [emoji38] the way I see it with my car, is its better the devil you know. Wink

Standard map? You could just not mash the throttle everywhere... Tongue

Get rid of it imo, but make damn sure whatever you replace it with is decent!! From experience replacing parts doesn't make a car more valuable, so you should be able t get something with major parts changed for near the same price as a shitter. Even better if it's got a warranty for a year while you've got other priorities...

If I could get hold of rear mounts and clutch at trade Wink Wink and a price...and someone to help fit it that would greeeeaaaat!

But that's the issue firstly, I have no money Sad as for dropping the map, I need software for that...lacking there

It's all cost Sad

You can't budget f*ck all Poodle, Ive been really unlucky the past 2 years mate. I knew the problems were there but couldn't do anything about it.
I don't want anyone thinking I'm a waster or 'chav'. I have never claimed a benefit in my life save for JSA on 3 occasions, and they were short term. I was screwed about by my last 3 employers, one after the other.

FML! The only thing I'm looking forward to, is the baby that is going to be here VERY soon. How the f*ck am i supposed to cope when he's here? lol

@Dan: I'll give you a text later on mate, cheers
@piggy: Where is that? I'll PM you Wink

You might find your clutch will hold out longer than you think so if you can get it done, drop the map and drive her nice and easy for the next couple of months!
We just had our 5th kid 10 weeks ago and were skint so I feel your pain buddy, just wish I was able to still have a 306 estate but the need for a 6-7 seater forced the 307 SW110 purchase :-( (issuelicious)
Start stockpiling nappies if you haven't already!
I do a weekly trip round local scrappies for budget boosters like Brembo callipers off a v6 pugs and citreons and if you can score a set for £50 you will at least triple your cash so might be worth a look or if you have a bit of space in the shed grab a cheap old MX bike or similar and break it on scum tree and eabers pay £100ish and once you've had £500 out of it bin the rest and buy another one! Just a thought!

Life gives you lemons sometimes (like a slipping clutch) - just don't suck the lemon (mash the accelerator) - just stick to about 40% throttle and it'll save the clutch, not to mention save you fuel Smile

Been driving Miss Daisy for about a year now lol mainly out of paranoia, I'm trying to stay above water but its hard as some of you may already know, this is my first kid so its all a learning curve.

For the parts I need to feel better ECP price is £168, which isn't a great deal of money really but...you know, money is tight and already spoken for haha Sad

Try CP4L or ECP ebay, or wait until they have a good sale on. If you were local I'd happily replace the clutch etc free, too far unfortunately.

Edit - Looks like you've got someone to do it anyway lol. Smile

Nah that's a fair response tbh, sorry bud that was a generic reply from me, wasn't aware of your situation. Guess i'm just too used to everyone these days being like "only get 2 grand a month after tax and once i've paid my mum £200 rent there's nothing left" lol.

Don't think i've anything useful to contribute to the cause, will shout if i find anything that will help.

Do you have AEP car parts factors? (pug citreon specialists) down your way?
I got a LUK clutch kit for my 306 Hdi estate 9 months ago on special mates rates for £59+vat and couldn't afford to get it fitted but the clutch stayed good til I sold the car so it went back 3 months ago for a few parts for the 307!
The branch I used was Rutherglen Glasgow so if there's no AEP near you it might be worth a call to them and ask about postage!
I also bought a wishbone 18mm bj for the same estate from SRS ( steering rack services ) for £19+ with trade disco obvs so worth an ask for your beam mounts

So far, from my own diagnosis:

Wishbone bushes (front ones as i have P bushes ready)
Engine mounts (all)
Rear beam mounts
Rear beam
Standard air box (running k&n atm... grrr)
MAF sensor (second hand one is fitted and there doesn't seem to be a choke on the power so i think its ok atm)
Break bleed nipples (f*cked on all but one rear)
Drive shafts (clunky on lock with one boot split... but passed MOT???)
Strut bearings (very dry sounding when steering)

Things to diagnose:

Noises mentioned in 1st post
EML
Bang/rattle from underneath (possible sway from shitty engine mounts causing zorst movement?)
Creaky noises from inside car at rear (more than likely the beam mounts and/or beam?)

Any of those on your list too? Big Grin
Three weeks! Congrats to you all mate Wink
So i wasn't alone in feeling this about my 306, I can't help but feel that its worthless, and as for 'better the devil you know'...couldnt agree more Wink

Y'know what, it's basically like you've just described my car! lmao

Mines had both driveshafts done recently, plus both wheel bearings, new brake discs on the front (think ones still warped though), and the top engine mount was done a couple of months ago (cup had completely rotted away), but there's still knocking under load, and on gear changes, suspect gearbox mount is goosed. Bottom mount looks alright, but may well change it when I can anyway. It's just never ending, and my attitude towards the car changes on an almost daily basis...sometimes I just wanna torch the damn thing! [emoji38]

Its the hills around me that are the biggest slip hazard, theres one in particular just off my road that when i'm climbing it, it starts to slip right near the top. Ive tried a few methods, like: getting speed up before the climb, driving slow...but the revs climb and the car starts to slow just before the top.
Its done it a few times now but iv been going a long way home to avoid it, damage limitation. Its just old and i still think 15 years aint bad for a clutch, it has had some stick in the 5 years I've had her, but not so much in the last 2 years Big Grin
