And maybe four candles....'andles for fowks...

But seriously, I didn't realise the quality of garden hoses varied so much! Bought a Hozelock 'starter' hose today, as I already had a pressure washer but was borrowing parents hose before. And, well, it's shit. I knew 'starter' meant it wasn't top of the range, but what's the point of a hose that kinks at every opportunity and collapses under it's own weight? It's also impossible to roll up neatly or unroll without causing a huge tangled mess. My own naiveity I guess, doubt it can be returned to the shop so may have to cut my losses there.

So question is, which ones are the best value for money? I don't mind spending a bit more on one that isn't just going to cause constant hassle!

Cheers
Tom

buy a reel for it, or bolt an old alloy to the wall of the house.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

Tried an old reel from Nans...it collapses under its own weight so you have to unwind the whole thing first...then it kinks everywhere! Rolleyes Literally not used a hose this bad before. Undecided

Never had a problem with them

Even an expensive hoselock will kink if it's not laid out right

Failrly sure the starter set is more to do with the accessories included rather than hose quality

What about those "magic' hosepipes i've seen where they just shrink when not in use and expand when in use. Cant remember what they're called but most likely it's JML related, what isn't?? Lol

All the same IMHO. Don't believe the hype.
Any hose on a reel will need fully unwinding before use. The in feed kinks as soon as you turn the handle.
Hozelock are generally regarded as half decent/decent anyway.

I had assumed that's what 'starter' meant as well, it doesn't though, its the crappy hose itself, you can get a 'starter' with varying accessories. http://www.hozelock.com/watering/hoses.html

I've used hoses at home and at Nans without these constant kinks. You can't lay this down at all without it kinking let alone move it.

Not sure I've seen those? I used to have a 'spring' style one but that's no where near long enough for use here.

Not in my experience, Nans hose is on a reel and I don't think it's ever been fully unwound lol. Has had a lot of use as well for watering the garden for several years. Only issue with it now is leaks from the attachments, hose itself is still perfect, I don't know what level of quality it is though.

Hmm, it doesn't say which hose comes with that, I'm guessing it was a better quality one though!

Also lol at the review on there, how hard can it be to put together! lol

always unroll it dont loop it off the role or it will always spiral and trist

Honestly Tom .
Being a builder we use hoses all the time to fill water butts n stuff. Many people have many expensive different solutions for hosepipes but they are generally not much difference from one to another.
Generally if it is wound and unwound correctly it should be fine but always best to unwind it all to make sure there's no kinks.

Maybe your water pressure is no good?

We've got 200ft of hose on a reel & I use probably 25ft when doing the car, never had any issue of it collapsing. What's your pressure like?

Ps those magic hoses are rubbish, they don't last long at all.

Pressure is too good tbh...I've had to turn it down outside after it blew two tap seals. Confused I'm pretty sure it's just poor quality tbh, as I say I never had the same issue at home or Nans with hoses/reels.
