HDi Starting Issues (lift pump power circuit)
#31
Tried a new battery tonight.

Still getting random voltages at the lift pump.

Eg ~ 3 ign off
~ 10 ign on now.

When I cross wires 4 & 8 on relay pin no power to lift pump.

Again ~ 10v accross p+ & p-

ok, i don't know where the voltages are coming from and i apologise for their innaccuracies.

after some further reading (big thanks to the bba-reman forum & angus on there, helping other people with what seems to be the same problem) i have come to the conclusion i have a break in the wiring between pin 4 & the non motor side of fuse 35. When i do a continuity test on this i get resistance/open circuit.

What i plan to do tomorrow when i get a hold of a good charged battery is test that the motor will run on its own wiring, if i run a wire from pin 8 on the relay plug (should be 12v) to the motor side of Fuse 35. If the pump runs then i know ive definately got a break in the wiring from Pin 4 - F35.

the hard part will probably be stripping the loom, following the wire and finding the break. If i don't find a break or cant follow the loom, i will probably cut the wire at both ends and wire in my own wire. Fingers crossed i dont have to as that's a last resort.

Thanks for the help so far with wiring diagrams etc, hopefully getting to the bottom of this.

you do realise fuse F35 15amp is in the engine bay fuse box ?

Yes cully lol.

The wire between pin 4 on the relay plug and f35 is what seems to be broken, I was doing the tests in the dark so couldnt follow the wire.

Hopefully be easier to follow today in daylight.

Ok the wire seems to go into the wing and along the chassis and back into the engine bay to the relay plug.

Anyone got any hard info on this wire before I tackle it?

Its the white one (110) from relay to F35.

Due to cullys help i sorted this problem last week.

its been good since (touch wood) but the problem seemed to be the chassis multiplug, it wasnt corroded or the likes. I disconnected, blew it out and rconnected it. Perhaps a dry corroded earth connection or the likes.

That's what I thought but I couldn't find the right pin, or the cable number on that pin wasn't correct.

I'll double check.
