H4 HIDs
#1
Do you rate them over uprated halogens? I am thinking of buying some to plonk on as even with uprated, brighter halogens i still find the visibility lacking compared to other cars i've had.

http://www.hawkcaralarm.com/H4HiloBeamM ... onKit.aspx (on ebay as well)

I found these ^ they have a seperate halogen bulb to provide the HI/main beam to supplement the HID. Do these seem any good? The other style of Hi/Lo integrated H4 design bulb works by moving the HID bulb like so;

Mmh, any opinions? Also, i am fully clued up on the requirement to have headlight washers/scattered beam patterns etc etc so spare me the lecturing please :p

I'm not too keen on them. If you do get them I think they do some to suit reflectors.

There not much brighter tbh especially in a light that isn't designed for them.
You can get the same brightness from a decent set of halogen bulbs like night breakers or Philips blue vision. Blue vision are fantastic! There expensive but have a year warranty on them.

I'm currently using some philips bulbs, i think they are supposed to be 20% brighter than standard. Slight improvement to the cack that were on before but visibility/illumination is still pretty shit on a dark motorway. Watching other cars go past just lighting up road hightlights how candle-like my lights are!

My mate has some H7 HIDs in his standard 307 headlights, although there is the issue of scatter - they still managed to light up a dark b-road fine. MUCH better than the standard halogens he had previously. Obviously the h4 design and frosted lamps wont help mine.

Depends what Philips bulbs you've got. They range from cheapys to decent ones.

frosted lights!! Get those changed for crysals. Ill spare you the lecture on scatter to a certain extent but using ph2lights is just a bad idea; they scatter the light far more than clystals! It'll also significantly affect where the light is thrown, which will be why your lights feel like candles...

Yeah ideally i'd stick on some crystals Ed but i'm being a tight student! Tongue And somehow, i've convinced myself that i prefer the look of the frosted ones (some sort of weird subconscious money saving psychology? :? )

If you're such a tight student, how can you stretch for HIDs? Either get crystals or don't bother with HIDs

Dont bother with HID's behind frosted glass. I has some in my morettes, the beam pattern was horrendous! Honestly as said get a good set of halogens or if you really want the HID's get crystal lights first.

P.S. The link in the op was for a motorbike!
