FCS & Camping guidelines

2013 French Car Show camping

Greetings all members, the below is something that we need to write down, just so everyone is clear. We generally operate a 'common sense' rule of thumb, but with the popularity of this years event, it doesn't do any harm to just note down a few things.

This year we have arranged to camp at Newton Mill Holiday Park, just outside of Bath. We reckon we are going to have around 60-70 members attending (which is a great turn out, thanks!). We have managed to secure our own field (The Meadow) to ourselves. This is great news because it gives us some privacy but also means there is less chance of us disturbing other campers.

If I am honest, given our size and the stigma surrounding car clubs, we have struggled to find a campsite that would take us. As you probably know car clubs often have a reputation of being anti social groups of people. Newton Mill have been very accommodating in accepting us and as such, we owe them the respect that we stick to a few simple rules whilst entering and leaving the site.

Can I ask that all members adhere to these simple, common courtesy notes:
  • When coming up to the campsite, please enter in a polite and courteous manor to other road users.
  • When on the campsite, please stick to any speed limits (more than likely 5mph) that are signed. Don’t forget, when we are there, it will be the school holidays so there will be lots of young children on site.
  • Please park where either a member of OC staff or a member of staff of the campsite tell you.
  • Do not start your car unnecessarily, rev it excessively or drive it unnecessarily. This means no taking people out for a quick drive just to show them how loud/fast your car is!
  • Only closed fires are acceptable. Any closed fires must be raised off of the grass. If you intend on using a portable BBQ, please ensure you bring some bricks to put it on or buy one with a stand. Jonny has kindly offered to bring his oil barrel BBQ so portables shouldn't be needed.
  • Please respect other campers. We will be isolated in our own field but this doesn't mean we can’t be seen or heard by others. When there, you are representing the club so no shouting, excessive swearing or any other rude gestures. -Anyone found to be offending other campers will be asked to leave by a member of OC staff and will not be allowed to return. Camping fees will not be refunded.
  • You are responsible for any guests you bring. If your guest is found to be offensive, both you and your guest will be asked to leave and not allowed to return.
  • Please keep litter to a minimum. Bin bags will be dotted around the field so please use them instead of just chucking your empties on the floor. Last year, the staff had to return to the site to spend over an hour tidying up other peoples rubbish left on the floor. This isn't fair on the campsite or us.
  • We do understand we are all there for a laugh, however please do remember that remember children will be on the site and so, can we please keep noise down after 10pm.

Saturday morning

We will be leaving as a convoy to go to the club stand at roughly 7:00. Access to the club stand at FCS is between 7:30 and 9:00am. Anyone that turns up after that time will have to park in the public car park.

We will be convoying from the campsite at 7:00 to the show in the order in which the stand will be displayed. This is so that when we arrive, it will make life much easier for the front row members to get in position.

In regards to the convoy to FCS, can we ask that we do not overtake people on the way there so we can stick to the convoy, since doing this will ease the pain on arrival to FCS. Don't forget that most, if not all cars have an OC sticker on them, so please drive courteously to other road users and in a sensible manner. Its not unknown for complaints to be made to clubs when people don't drive safely. Remember, you are representing the club with how you behave, so please behave in a manner in which you wish to be represented.

Myself and Scott both know all of the above is pretty boring but we do need to make sure everyone is clear. We are a relatively new club and as such, need to make sure that wherever we go that we are welcomed back.

Last year we were welcomed back to the campsite so we can do it easily but by following these simple rules, we should set a very good reputation of what is a very good club.

Any questions on the day, feel free to find a member of staff. Most of you know us anyway but for those that don’t; most staff will be wearing OC polo shirts.
