Fuel gauge is fixed! Seems that tapping on the unit fixed it. Fuel gauge has been working properly for a few days now. It was temperamental for a few drives after I tapped the unit, but worked as norm...

Resolved this in the end! If it's any use to anyone, I kept experimenting cutting holes in the outside facing edge of the seal. The seal has absolutely huge holes in the side of it now, seems counter ...
