What size battery do i need for my xud? Not physical but Ah or whatever you measure it in.. Thanks!

RE: Battery - Tom - 28-12-2012

Just get the highest AH you can in a size that fits in the battery box lol

RE: Battery - Matt - 28-12-2012

110 iirc

RE: Battery - ozonehostile - 28-12-2012

you want a nice big battery for a diesel, highest ampage you can afford.
ive got a truck battery in mine since i have the space for it in the boot

RE: Battery - Dan! - 28-12-2012

You dont want anything bigger than it needs or else your alternator will be working overtime to try and keep up charging it. You want around 600CCA for an XUD

RE: Battery - Bananalad - 28-12-2012

Ive a brand new 65ah battery here is that good enough?

RE: Battery - Ruan - 28-12-2012

It's the CCA you want to be looking out for really, that's it's peak output for starting..

Mine's a 540cca and it's a bit small really, if you can get a 600+ to fit in the battery box, bonus!

RE: Battery - cwspellowe - 28-12-2012

I got an EXIDE Premium 075 battery, iirc it's 60Ah and 600CCA. More than adequate.

Before that I had a poxy 480CCA thing I had in the GTI, would rarely start without a lot of labouring!

RE: Battery - Bananalad - 29-12-2012

Got a battery out of a 2.1 turbo diesel 406 into it now Smile

RE: Battery - daddyfixit - 29-12-2012

075 on mine........

RE: Battery - Matt - 30-12-2012

Where the hell did I get 110 from? Wtaf was I thinking haha

RE: Battery - andywhy - 02-01-2013

The alternator won't have an issue with bigger batteries, as it should be staying near full all the time. Only time this should be an issue is if you drain it completely which could make it overheat.

Also remember the CCA's is for the first 2 seconds of cranking at most, then it drops quite a lot, so the higher the better especially for cold starting. My 306 had a 62Ah 600CCA IIRC.

Don't do what I did and get the 480cca that halfords recommends in the their book in the shop it's not enough only jest manages to start with it.

RE: Battery - n0v0s - 03-01-2013

I think mine is about 900cca and 110Ah. Could probably just crank mine in gear to get it a-b! Beastly battery

RE: Battery - ally406 - 03-01-2013

Good place for batteries is Costco. Think my Bosch S5 was only about £60 and Halfords wanted £140 for the same one.
