RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 15-12-2012

Do it yourself pal, really is simple.

Get yourself
1 roll I masking tape
1 fibreglass matting kit (£10 halfords)
Some filler
Primer
Paint
Lacquer

Mine took about an hour if that!

RE: smoothed grill - dturbo ash - 16-12-2012

did you cut that recess out where badge goes?

smoothed grill - Jukie88 - 16-12-2012

I did mine impatiently and stuck abit of wore mesh in the recess and filled over the top with fibreglass it weighs a tonne lol gunna strip it at some point and do it again with a piece of my othe grill

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

Yeah mate cut it out like so

[Image: A4FF49D5-EDE1-411F-A0C2-8B7633D8F4D1-139...8C1086.jpg]

Rough up the back with the dremel
Masking tape over the painted side
Turn upside down
Fibreglass the shit out of it
Rip off masking tape
Sand down so all the fibreglass sits lower than the painted surface
Fill with filler
Sand smooth
Primer
Paint
Lacquer

Job done

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

I can get one next time I'm at my mums.
I intended doing a guide on it but my iphone is shite and keeps dying!

RE: smoothed grill - samass - 16-12-2012

Coolio! One I've got has just been filled, weighs about 4.73 tons lol

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

Lol, don't think you can really tell any difference with mine tbh.

Put a pic up

RE: smoothed grill - samass - 16-12-2012

needs some more work, i've sprayed a guide coat onto it, it was in primer, but there are a few lumps and bumps

ill get some pics up when i can be arsed lol

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

You'll smooth them out easy enough, use a block to make sure you get the angles right and you'll be fine.

RE: smoothed grill - samass - 16-12-2012

yeah that was the plan, doing the exact same thing on the rest of the car Rofl

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

Haha rather you than me, Feckin hate prepping up!

RE: smoothed grill - samass - 16-12-2012

actually really enjoying it! for now anyway, i've only done half the rear quarter with 240 grit lolz

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

Haha yeah that'll wear off pretty quick!
To be fair I still love doing it but is slow tedious work.

RE: smoothed grill - samass - 16-12-2012

true that. and i stil have to plug and fill the aerial hole, and the rub strip holes. and then find and smooth a bonnet! my right arm is gunna be HENCH Big Grin

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012

Bonnets are easy enough, you need to get yourself a small detail sander to get the thickness of it off, makes it a lot easier!
I'd come give you a hand but its a bit of a trek

RE: smoothed grill - samass - 16-12-2012

Ah noted, I've a cheapy one kicking about!

nonsense, not that far, you drive an hdi!

RE: smoothed grill - Oil-burner - 16-12-2012
