You can still buy them?

RE: 2.1GTd....FCS report, Pugfest prep... - welshpug - 16-07-2015

no you can't, look up the sizes available lol

RE: 2.1GTd....FCS report, Pugfest prep... - Stef205 - 16-07-2015

A quick read came up with the r is the replacement of the ad08 and is no longer being made. The R's are supposedly 1-2s quicker in tests.

RE: 2.1GTd....FCS report, Pugfest prep... - welshpug - 16-07-2015

yeah, and theyre no longer List 1B tyres, theyre 1A now IIRC, so not legal for the Castle combe saloons.

RE: 2.1GTd....FCS report, Pugfest prep... - Pebbles167 - 16-07-2015

I had the AD08R, probably the best all round track tyre i've used. That being said, I've found the Federal 595 RSR to have similar levels of grip in the dry, but are not nearly as good in the wet. Can't comment for definite on life though, as they are still reasonably new with about 3 track days under them. Seem to be wearing quicker than AD08R's.

RE: 2.1GTd....FCS report, Pugfest prep... - Day666 - 16-07-2015

Don't take my word for it ?
The very best Ib control tyre you can buy as of now is Dunlop DZ03g !
They are now made in Japan
Stiff as hell sidewalks your tyre fitter will love you  Rofl

Plus wear in med is amazing

Look up reviews all over the world !!!!
Under £100 in certain sizes
Mr Tyre distribute them in the uk ...Demon Tweeks not to bad a price either

RE: 2.1GTd....FCS report, Pugfest prep... - Pebbles167 - 16-07-2015

They cost about £120 each in 195/50/15 last i looked!

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - Piggy - 17-07-2015

yeah the R is the newer version.

Not sure I can find better than the AD08R to be honest, as I would like to not have to carry round a track set of wheels/tyres.

So need something for late spring to autumn for daily use (inc wet weather) and good for the track. Plus £120 a corner is too much for my budget

£68 a corner I can do. I mean go into a tyre place non trade and you will probably have to pay that for a "premium" tyre for 195/50/15 anyway!

(16-07-2015, 12:58 PM)welshpug Wrote: you don't want a 205 tyre on the C5 wheels, as they're only 6" wide, but they'll got on the TD wheels as they are 7", though a 195 will go on them too.

a 205 will go a on a 6j C5 alloy. But thats its max!

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - Lwilliams - 17-07-2015

What's the best tyre life... I know the ad08's are good but what of:

AD08R's
DZ03G's
AD048's

Cant wait to try the R888R's

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - Dum-Dum - 17-07-2015

Well done on getting to the magic 1000kg mate, will be impressive to get below with that boat anchor of an engine.

The first bend, once warm and rubbered in I rekon is flat. Second hairpin I need to carry MUCH more momentum through, little kink before esses needs to be flat, then straighten and brake for the esses, and last bend I think I need to stay in 3rd aswell, lose a LOT of time on the second hairpin and last bend.

From my passenger ride you really need to sort your braking, don't know if it was brake balance, my weight or first time out on the hill that year but you were repeatedly locking wheels.

Defo a great fun car, so un dramatic.

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - Piggy - 17-07-2015

I still locked a little into the second hairpin later on, not on my last and best run mind but Nathan and Sam will confirm the brakes got BETTER! Got some heat into the tyres/brakes AND the hill did warm up during the day, they were stoning and out performed my expectations every time I hit them!

UN dramatic? sounds boring Sad

I would be curious too.

The thing that puts me off R888s for me is I wana be able to drive it daily.

thats why I think I am sold on the AD08Rs. More reviews I read the more decided I am!

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - adam b - 17-07-2015

I've been using the R version since October. 6k miles a few track miles and still 4+mm left.
Awesome things for 60 quid a corner and I'll buy them again.

They are much better than R888s in every way.

I went out with whoever was driving foobys GTi6 at the time (not the binary fooby) and it just felt so much faster with the noise and the 'dartyness'. It probably wasn't faster especially with 50bhp less and 200+kg more but it felt more of an event if you know what I mean.

Also the Rallye slides and even 1% off line and everyone knows about it, you got far more sideways than the video shows like maybe 30* off line and the car was just like meh.

Just un dramatic and un troubled. It's probably a compliment.

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - cully - 17-07-2015

chris what were the ad08's like on mine round combe at FCS as a pasanger?

yeah foobys gti did shout about it and slither around a lot.

Yeah the video doesnt show it going sideways at all really, but glad you were in there to be witness to the fact it was quite a big un!

I'll take it as a compliment and keep it in mind for next time to try and scare you more! Tongue

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - adam b - 17-07-2015

I got mine direct from yokohama UK, but I guess we are dealers.
They are a hard compound but designed to heat up quickly. Great break away on them, very stable and some of the best tyres I've ever used for mixed Road and track. And I've used a lot.

Yeah I can vouch for the brakes. They are insane! Are they still on 266mm? I need to give mine a good overhaul, they are good but not as responsive as I'd like

Don't forget they're stopping a considerably lighter car than standard, there is practically zero weight on the. will make a big difference to how the brakes feel.

Do agree this thing does stop well! You on the ds2500 or the m1122?

Remember nathans on the same brakes in a car that weighs even less! gti6 brakes on a 106 feel similar too 4 pots on a 306.

I think naths just need better quality discs & pads and the calipers could benefit from a refurb perhaps Smile

That's the plan Smile hoping it will have some epic stopping power then

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - Matt-Rallye - 18-07-2015

Get some decent quality brembo discs, Ds2500 pads and get some sticky tyres and you will be through the windscreen just hovering your foot over the pedal Smile

Derrrp, yeah should stop pretty well then!

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - Piggy - 18-07-2015

Ds2500 pads n brembo discs
I didnt like the 1144s tbh.

I bet nathans 106 is similar weight if not less tbh. But Nath has got ditch finder on the front

RE: 2.1GTd....1000kg... - adam b - 18-07-2015

Try 310s on a 1000kg carWink

It did stop well on the standard brakes with ds2500, but I did melt them on track. Cooling needed...

So the system has space to expand.

Think Ronseal.
