RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - 7057sam - 30-03-2015

My rallye felt completely different stripped, really have to watch the back end on track, although I did brace it abit with a cage.

Now the astor with all the interior in feels way more predictable on track.do you have you battery in the boot ??

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 30-03-2015

Battery in boot aye.
Not had it out much tbh.
Currently no boost pipes! lol
Not sure about hitting pedestrians, I don't do it very often.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - darrenjlobb - 30-03-2015

Fair play to the effort, ill be honest, I ran mine stripped, and its win, id never go back, however dont think personally id go quite to this level to save the last few grams...but fair play all the same.... Things like those bumpers, I find peugeot bumpers saggy weak as piss even with all the inside structure, let alone without...can see it ending up looking pretty tatty in no time... And things like electric windows, to me id rather the feature than couple grams you save... But admire the epic time / effort, interesting to see how she weighs in...

Also with regard to front bumper hitting pedestrians etc...tbh its still stronger / safer than some of the aftermarket fiberglass chav bodykits etc which are perfectly legal...

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - procta - 30-03-2015

looking good piggy, shame about the house music!

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Toms306 - 30-03-2015

Surely the bonnet strengthening is there for a reason? Its unlike Peugeot to waste expensive metal. Might warp in the sun! Confused

Must admit, that's some serious effort to shed a few grams though...just make sure you've been to the loo before you go or all that hard work will be wasted. Big Grin

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - darrenjlobb - 30-03-2015

Well its there for strength for that also, but main reason is just so you dont bend the crap out of the bonnet...if you so much as lean on that now, itl dent in, / flex at high speed etc....

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 30-03-2015

Meh its got so many dings on it I really dont care.
FG boot and bonnet is likely later on, this is just for lols and seeing how much can be lost.
I'll be honest and say it is there to take impact, you can see the crumple 'zones' in it.....but. Well. Too late.

All part of the journey.

Jealous much lol lmao

Gotta admit...I don't care if NO one likes it...I've passed that point in my modding life now... I'm loving it Smile

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Toms306 - 30-03-2015

Needs a blue air filter imo lol... The red one annoys me with everything else blue. lol

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 30-03-2015

Buy me one then...yet to find a blue S2000 filter. Annoyingly I ordered one that had black plastic not the horrid cream, that annoys me more.

Ta pal Smile

Me too lol

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - ginge191 - 30-03-2015

Fair one to effort, a hell of a lot of time and effort put into this.

How much weight has been saved? Knowing how meticulous you are to details I'd assume you've weighed what's been removed.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 30-03-2015

Nah too much effort to weigh stuff.
It weighed 1180kg before.
Will be going to weighbridge this week ThumbsUp

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - adam b - 30-03-2015

Can't remember exactly but the FG bonnet saved me loads. Lots of weight under the dash and in the doors. Without a cage under 1000kg is easy enough. A lot to be had in wheels and tyres too.

I much prefer the handling in a stripped 306, much more pointy and easier to float the rear if needed.

Huh

It is after a bit... Especially with wiring that gets stripped etc.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 30-03-2015

I can't be bothered to box every bit I strip off and stick on the bathroom scales!? when I'm guna weigh the whole thing anyway Smile

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - adam b - 30-03-2015

I need to do corner weight mine again. Moved a lot into the wheelbase recently. It should be the same as before even with the extinguishers etc added.

I know Ash got his race car under 860kg with a lot of carbon/fg parts. It was charged and wide track though

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 30-03-2015

I will be ecstatic to get it around 1000kg.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 31-03-2015

Well its not an amazing paint scheme with awesome wide yellow wheels... But we cant all be that awesome.... it's coming together.

S2000 filters are win for the price, i got the same rubbish cream and red color in my black engine bay even though i ordered black too, luck of the draw i suppose

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - lolsteve - 31-03-2015

Waiting for comment
"So woke up this morning and realised...all the paint on the car must be worth a few hundred grams worth so I coated the car in paint stripper" lol

Interesting project though and looking forward to the results of all the hard work with the weighbridge.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Danny Wideboy - 31-03-2015

Watching with interest.
If it's not a daily then why not.

Could just get a 205 though.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Piggy - 01-04-2015

But then I wouldn't have a 306!?

I'd have a paper mache ugly 205

What planet are you on? Anyone with any sense of taste knows a 205 is an icon and a thing of beauty.

Nah, I do like them. Parents, friends all had one, like driving them...

Not sure I would ever own one though.

I just have more of a connection to a 306. Boring I know.

However, I have been quoted as saying if this 306 got smacked/mashed/rolled...I would put the 2.1 into a 205 for lols

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - bashbarnard - 01-04-2015

Almost bought a 205 yesterday. An old 3 door derv down road from me with no tax or test. So much want for it. But win for 306 estate practicality.

RE: 2.1GTd....On a diet. - Danny Wideboy - 02-04-2015

I absolutely loved my 306s and wouldn't be talked into anything else when I had them but when I managed to get the 205 GTI cheap I was instantly transformed into a 205 lover and don't think I will own another 306.
Mine is not a daily so lives in a garage and only comes out for fun. Don't need too much in the way of luxury but think I would rather a 205 with an interior than a 306 that has been stripped so much it could be considered a danger to my safety TBH.
But that is my opinion only and you are welcome to yours.
