RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - KrisCampbell - 26-03-2013 Bound to be easy enough to find one, scrappys or else eBay! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 26-03-2013 yeah will do... need some other bits anyway...totting up a list to get the lot RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 27-03-2013 bit of progress today... head nearly all built up...very happy...apart from having to drop in at gsf for a valve stem seal as the dog chewed one up! 95p poorer! you can see why the 2.1 has clearance issues with the bonnet...the head is so much taller than the 1.9 head also nabbed myself 90L of veg oil cheap, a stealth shelf cheap and a GTi ARB, rear n/s arch liner, and the plastic boot trim edge thingy. happy. PS hoping to do a final scrub and paint that head...just light coat of VHT silver to brighten it up RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 02-04-2013 No pics...but the sump is off to clean and paint and for the crank seal to go in.... It surprised me that it was a baffled sump!...proper job...is this true of the xud9te aswell...i dont remember it being baffled!? Im baffled :S Got to work on me new seats...thanks to friends with a upholstery cleaner!... BEFORE: AFTER: BEFORE: AFTER: The after photos dont do them justice tbh, flash makes weird shadows! But they look great! Just door cards to do.... Anyone suggest a relatively inexpensive leather cleaner/treatment?????? PgY RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 03-04-2013 got down to some more cleaning... carpet... before: after: and not sure if its that clear but this is a pic of the roof lining...left side done...right side not done...left side was a lot worse mind...thankyou to the previous owner for shortening his life and his kids by smoking in the car! the resulting gunge... done the stealth shelf too...I didnt think it was dirty...but the water was filthy that came off it!!! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - mr_fish - 03-04-2013 do you use like a wet vac/rug doctor? or good old fashioned elbow grease? RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 03-04-2013 no this was a mega carpet cleaner with little adapter to fit a small head. awesome bit of kit. proper chemicals used too. dont think anything else would have shifted the crud RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 12-04-2013 Update on the engine...been feeling right in the dumps, events, time of year, weather etc...so got up the motivation and did some work....happy too as it perked me up and stopped me being a right old grumpy git for a couple of hours.... so....removed sump, cleaned sump, painted sump. replaced crank shaft seal. fitted the 1.9 flywheel after a clean and polish. fitted nice new clutch. replaced HDi box clutch fork arm etc with XUD ones... replaced gearbox input shaft seal. phew fitted all box.. cleaned up block top and pistons for the last time... and timed it up and got the headgasket all ready HEAD ON! yeeha! felt so good I thought I would start cleaning the bits yet to go on... so the intake manifold... hopefully you can tell that the left half is dirty but has been heavily washed, the right side has had the polishing started...2nd from right intake section just wired up, the far right section some serious buffing.... what do you think? I was just going to paint it, but I think it looks sweet....hopefully do some other parts to match oh and stealth ftw boom boom bang bang RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Mattcheese31 - 12-04-2013 nice touches . . .i keep thinking of getting a stealth shelf for mine as well . . RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - spike2002 - 13-04-2013 Looking nice and clean mate I hope you have built that down stairs and not up or you are going to struggle getting it down hahaha RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 13-04-2013 all on ground floor now! pump n polishing upstairs RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - ozonehostile - 13-04-2013 Wanna swap engines? *looks at oil stained engine bay with disappointment* RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Kwik - 13-04-2013 word of warning for that type of stealth they resonate like a b@#*h that's why i went to a phase 1 job it pee'd me off lol. But good job on the engine RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 13-04-2013 hmmm i was thinking that RE: stealth...have done couple things to help it i hope thanks for comments.... making little victories as I go...done lots of metal polishing today!! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Tallguy_2 - 13-04-2013 What chemical did you use to clean the upholstery out of intrest? How's the polishing going? RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 14-04-2013 (13-04-2013, 10:27 PM)Tallguy_2 Wrote: What chemical did you use to clean the upholstery out of intrest? duno mate....was a friends kit...we swapped favors...he just left me with a bucket of powder for cleaning and a bucket of powder for odour (13-04-2013, 10:27 PM)Tallguy_2 Wrote: How's the polishing going? getting there! I could go further, but most of the pieces you see there sit BEHIND the engine...I love in the inlet but again its mostly hidden unfortunately...the pump, cradle and other bits you cant see will be much more mirror polished painted rocker cover on....beesknees... RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - martyn92 - 17-04-2013 Where abouts are you mounting the bigger turbo? As from what ive read there isnt much room behind the engine with it being bigger ? RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 17-04-2013 ....boot!!! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 18-04-2013 fly sensor drilled in... just gota hope its in the right place! Inlet on... excited to get other shinies on now! then wack on the belt, and do a test fit to see how much room there is/isnt and what needs bashing, sorry, adjusting to make fit! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - ozonehostile - 18-04-2013 Oh yeah, I still need to take some pics for you. Will send asap RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Jonny81191 - 18-04-2013 This is looking really good mate, coming to any shows this year? RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 18-04-2013 My target is FCS. Want to be all done by then. I want it all spot on so dont want to rush for the hillclimb and fooby something up more polishing done today...takes FOREVER...but getting there... next job is to strip and clean pump and then build the 11mm hybrid Fit all the shinies and then trial fit it minus exhaust mani....the current one is completely useless...no idea why they even made it... RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 31-05-2013 cant believe how long its been since i last posted. Mad mad month been collecting some parts, clutch acbel, MBC, gauges, that sorta thing. But actually DID something today... 11mm, gov mod, lda grind. all in 3.5 hours inc polishing. quite pleased with that. Although, I am a bit stumped as to where to place my throttle arm on the splines....?? any thoughts? Next plans: clean up starter/alternator/PAS pump. fit all the above and injection pump. trial fit of engine then: clean up and clock turbo. mock up turbo piping clean/paint/weld engine bay fit all the above... then: build up suspension/polybushing etc fit all the interior weld r/n/s inner arch. paint and repair exterior. fit rear beam and gti brakes swap windscreens done. simples dont think FCS is going to happen RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - ozonehostile - 31-05-2013 nice work on the pump dude, what you use on it? RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 31-05-2013 (31-05-2013, 07:27 PM)ozonehostile Wrote: nice work on the pump dude, what you use on it?thanks A lot of self! Wire wheel on drill, then on dremel, then 1000wetNdry, then metal polish. repeating each stage a couple times! takes too long. lol oh, engine degreaser after wire wheels, using stiff brush to get to awkward bits RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Piggy - 04-06-2013 so managed some progress last night... nice warm long evening at last to do some work on it Although didnt get as far as wanted as the sump took more "modifying" than I realised to mount the XUD aux setup. cant really see it there, but theres a few chunks of alloy that had to come off....FYI when grinding a alloy sump, wear face protection, stuff gets everywhere! In fact, cover EVERYTHING! got manifold EGR "blank" done... welded, sealed, painted. Hope to get the belt on tonight, all timed up. then trial fitment! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - Mattcheese31 - 04-06-2013 good progress mate . . . . crack on . . RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - mr_fish - 04-06-2013 a clean & tidy build. Will be interesting to see this fitted RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - ozonehostile - 04-06-2013 f*ck that's looking nice! RE: XTDT to GTDT via a 2.1 - darrenjlobb - 04-06-2013 Fair play, nice effort, looks clean and tidy! |
