Oil temp once again - David - 18-11-2012

Took the car out for a drive today, doing between 70-80mph at just under 10psi and the oil temp was hitting 116oc when my warning alarm is set to 118-120oc! So I slowed down but I'm kinda worried about how hot it was getting Confused anyone got any comments?

'Warning alarm' haha you turdburgular!

RE: Oil temp once again - Dum-Dum - 18-11-2012

120 is alright

RE: Oil temp once again - David - 18-11-2012

Yeah haha I'm still worried that my turbo will go bang or touch wood something worse

What temp should I be worried at?

RE: Oil temp once again - cwspellowe - 18-11-2012

A bazillion degrees

RE: Oil temp once again - David - 18-11-2012

Lol I don't think that's high enough to be worried

RE: Oil temp once again - Dave - 18-11-2012

Question is why is it high... There's little load on the motor

RE: Oil temp once again - David - 18-11-2012

I dunno why tbh :/ might have to get an oil cooler.....

Probably because with your Tiny turbo at 80mph you are boosting 10-20 psi. Putting more load on everything.

Only the turbo that's working harder, not everything else. Air temps will be hotter and so will the oil passing through the turbo but nothing which should raise the temp above the usual. Don't know what the usual oil temp is but I'd imagine its not too far off the coolant temp.

IIRC 130 or 140 is about the limit of what you wanna see but if you got a cheap ebay gauge you could be a long way out anyway.

Ok thanks mate, it's not a cheap one at all cost me quite abit.

RE: Oil temp once again - Ben - 19-11-2012

Just take it out you never worried before

RE: Oil temp once again - David - 19-11-2012

Yeah I didn't worry about it before as I couldn't see what temp it was lol

Ignorance is bliss...
