V6 MTDI Project - darrenjlobb - 18-11-2012

Well i figured it might be VAG shite, but its still diesel, so there must be some interest here to? Tongue

Have had my uncles Audi V6 TDI (3.0) in my yard going green for almost a year now, its basicallly got chronic ECU issues ( ecu controls engine / abs / traction control etcetc) which has rendered it useless / impossible to MOT, but been relucktent to scrap it as I literally did all the cambelt / oil pump / bottom end etc (real nightmare / expensive in parts to do on the v6!) 6 months before it all gave up, so have been holding on it..

Anyway, after spending months and months trying to get to the root of the electrical issues, I officially give in, ive tried everything, had ecu's sent off / "repaired" / ran new wires blah blah, and just refuses to work...so thats it, its all getting sacked off!

Have decided to fully Mtdi it, orignally ecu driven VP44 injection, so fairly big project given no mounts avalible for a VE / no throttle cable etc.

So stripped it down this afternoon:

The VP off:

Good dose of engine cleaner:

Screw that, pressure washer:

Spent a while firguring how I was going to mount the pump / how i was going to fit a cambelt pulley with a 1inch center shaft onto a 17mm VE shaft, and worked out what i needed, then as it was sunday / couldnt get materials, decided to paint some bits as was looking a bit tatty!

CAT yellow rockers...obviously?! lol, only rattle cans I had to hand!

Going to try to get it running first / MOT it, and then I guess it would be rude not to straight pipe it / put some naughty injectors / turbo in it?!

RE: V6 MTDI Project - karl1989 - 18-11-2012

sound like a good project. will need abit of research to do this i bet. how many turbos are going to be bolted on to this then ninja

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Jonny81191 - 18-11-2012

looks like a good project mate!

RE: V6 MTDI Project - kernow_joe - 18-11-2012

be nice to just have the thing running!

1 year is an understatment of how long you've had it though I'm sure!!!

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Scott - 18-11-2012

lol Very nice, I'll be keeping a close eye on this Smile

RE: V6 MTDI Project - darrenjlobb - 18-11-2012

Just the one turbo, stock for now for MOT, and then ill see what my uncles after, if I get my way itl have a set of 400hp nozzles in it and a hx35 sat in the V, but dont think he will want the lag, in which case he will just have to pay for a big vnt!!

Given my car is just abandoned right now, i couldnt resist starting on this!

Heh yeah staying in the audi shell, going to get it sorted / mot'ed, tune the crap out of it, then park it up on my uncles drive and put keys through letterbox and wait for him to come home from work Tongue

RE: V6 MTDI Project - kernow_joe - 18-11-2012

I reckon closer to 2 years.

where you getting a pump from? I mean car wise to run 6 cylinder

RE: V6 MTDI Project - darrenjlobb - 18-11-2012

6bt for head/rotor/camplate, into a shorter housing with gov from a car pump

RE: V6 MTDI Project - londondan86 - 18-11-2012

Another epic project from Lobbland!! Loving the yellow rockers!

And you defo need at least 2 turbos, one for each bank and maybe a cheeky charger in the middle of the V

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Dum-Dum - 18-11-2012

EPIC!

Haha I wish, so temping to given the turbo exit is right in the middle of the bonnet! But gotta keep it legal / daily driveable!

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Ed Doe - 18-11-2012

And that v6 has been hanging about for years, it was a no t when I was at uni, and that was a good 3 years ago now!

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Matt - 18-11-2012

This lol! Like it, will be watching with interest fella.

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Eeyore - 19-11-2012

interesting stuff! looks like an epic engine! ive always been worried about pressure washing engines. Is it relatively safe to do?

Re: V6 MTDI Project - darrenjlobb - 19-11-2012

Ive never had any issues in all the years I've done it, obviously block open air intake etc, but can always pull plugs when they hydro lol

RE: V6 MTDI Project - ginge191 - 19-11-2012

This is epic! should be very interesting to see how this turns out..

RE: V6 MTDI Project - cwspellowe - 19-11-2012

Is this running yet?

RE: V6 MTDI Project - darrenjlobb - 19-11-2012

Out of 8mm plate, not had time to get any yet!

RE: V6 MTDI Project - cwspellowe - 19-11-2012

lol yeah cos that's teh ONLY problem?

RE: V6 MTDI Project - darrenjlobb - 19-11-2012

Meh pretty much, pretty sure ive got enough bits in my ve room to put a pump together, and the rest just involves the welder / drill and some common sence tbh, oh, does anyone know of any petrol audi a4's i can nick the pedal box from? Need to convert it to use a throttle cable somehow....

RE: V6 MTDI Project - cwspellowe - 19-11-2012

Piece of string out the window ftw

RE: V6 MTDI Project - Chris - 19-11-2012

Eppic project.
The early 1.8ts had cables on the a4's maybe the a6's did too?
