gmax with xud 40mm springs on gti? - kernow_joe - 15-11-2012

been offered a set of gmax shocks with 40 or 60 mm lowering springs from an xud, how much weight difference is there between the 2 engines?

not sure whether to go for it or not, only £50 and will hold me over untill I can afford some coilovers in the new year.

just unsure how much difference there is between the engine weights so how much it will drop my car?

Usually 5-10mm from what I've read
Go for 40mm and you'll be down 45-50mm

so gti's not massively heavier then?

i would think there isn't a massive difference in weight between the 2 engines

No, auto trader says
GTI6 1214kg
Dturbo 1135kg
It's only a passenger's weight different!

When you take into account things like heavier brakes and beam i don't think theres much between the two engines.

RE: gmax with xud 40mm springs on gti? - Oil-burner - 15-11-2012

The extra weight will all be at the front, the rear beam won't be much different as drums are heavy!

The weight difference will be more to do with thick torsion and ARB's.

I've heard a lot of people ask the question but never try it and report back, but as an estimate, as said around 10mm probably.

Lower is better, so it's a win anyway Wink

very true, best go check my bank balance

£50 sounds all right to me, new top mounts beginning of the year what do you reckon?

Yeah from what other have done both that way round and gti springs on a DT. Its around 10mm between engines. The XUD engine itself is around 40kg lighter iirc

am I being tight or is £50 bit much for second hand gmax front shocks and springs?

Well the springs are like 70 quid on the bay alone so I'd say that's fair. Never hurts to haggle though Wink

Yeah I'd say that's a good price, although doesn't hurt to push your luck a bit Smile
