licence points - Niall - 06-11-2012

My Speeding points run out this month (SP30) but i was just wondering, ive heard that although they only last 3 years, you cant apply for a clean licence until 4 years from the offence. Why is this?
Also, do i still have to declare them to the insurance company after the 3 years?

Cheers Heart

RE: licence points - Pompey306mark - 06-11-2012

3 years is the totting up expiry date.
4 years is when they come off the license.

That's what it said on my letter.

RE: licence points - samass - 06-11-2012

RE: licence points - Matt - 06-11-2012

How did you get points?

RE: licence points - Niall - 06-11-2012

got caught by a van....and i took the points because A) it was a forward facing camera and B) i f*cked up so its my responsibility!

RE: licence points - Curt - 06-11-2012

Exactly the same as me^^. Hiding at the bottom of a dip around a corner... but I did it so no getting out of it

RE: licence points - samass - 06-11-2012

i got pulled over... no getting out of that one really

RE: licence points - Curt - 06-11-2012

Unless you have one of Jeremy Clarkson's Bill Oddie masks

RE: licence points - Matt - 06-11-2012

Never been done for speeding.

Street racing, asb driving, tailgating, forcing others out of lanes, causing disturbance to the public, aggressive acceleration, aggressive cornering and failing to stop for police is more my forte

RE: licence points - samass - 06-11-2012

hahaha would deffo get some odd looks from the coppers then!

I've got 11 points on my licence at the moment all for speeding, though 6 of them expired this year for insurance purposes I went to court to fight the last one and lost even though the picture couldn't identify me as the driver the company that I was working for said it was me and I got 5 points so lucky not to get a ban but I've been banned before(18months) and when I got my licence back that time I had 27 points on it for 5 yrs as it was a ban under the totting up procedure but that was like 20 years ago

RE: licence points - spike2002 - 07-11-2012

RE: licence points - ChezHdi - 07-11-2012

Clean lincense here too but i've only been driving 2 years lol! being pulled once or twice for "driving without duty of care to others" but hay "sorry sir, yes sir, three bags full sir" got me out of it.

RE: licence points - Strikeforce - 07-11-2012

Just remember this old trick when you want them points off your licence, instead of applying for a new 1 and paying £20??? Just simply change your address to say grannys house and you will get sent a new licence with the points no longer there and then just simply change it back, its even easier if you have an upto date passport as you can do it online or if not post is just as easy,
I noticed this when i moved house with points and the new licence came back with none and was only a few month after 3 years of getting the points,
A few mates have done this also Big Grin

RE: licence points - C.A.R. - 07-11-2012

I went 4 years without getting any.

Then got an SP30 when in Cornwall. Money making scammera.

Stuck behind caravan. Going up a hill. Crawler lane appears, so I boot it to overtake (as you do) only to get flashed as it's a 50mph limit (not 60). Load of old bollocks, otherwise would have left me slowly creeping past this caravan that was probably doing just under 50 but was slowing due to the incline.

Cops are c*nts.

RE: licence points - HDIkyle - 07-11-2012

Points come off your licence after 3 years but gota declare them for 5. Mine came off while I was banned and my new licence does not have them on, so I didn't tell the insurance but they found out and increased my premium by £2 a month.

RE: licence points - Niall - 07-11-2012

Fair enough. Looks like two more years of not having cheaper insurance (although according to admiral, one sp30 makes no difference to price at all)

RE: licence points - Curt - 07-11-2012

Same according to Brentacre
