What can cause a bad starting issue? - Matt - 06-11-2012

Prior to the flood damage I've occurred there was a starting issue, turn the key it will crank but won't fire up.

What could cause this? It would only start if I put my foot on the throttle

I heard that someone had this issue once, they took it to a local garage who actually found this lodged in the block!...

Hah I though I was tripping !

 same!
On a serious note, if you cleaned out the inlet and throttle body, and it only fire with slight throttle, might still be sticking icv, or something relating to the engine not getting any air

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - Matt - 06-11-2012

Is there a sensor for that? By any chance is it a grey one on the side? Also occasionally I get the revs stick at 2k, so think the icv is f*cked

Re: What can cause a bad starting issue? - rocker8742 - 06-11-2012

Itll probably be the icv mate mines the same won't start without throttle won't idle and when it does is constantly hunting got a replacement to go on soon to see if it clears it up Smile

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - samass - 06-11-2012

go see poodle/niall and get it on pp man. Probably icv, get a gen. Peugeot one tho, cheap patterns tend to have short lifespans.

otherwise, the inlet air temp sensor and the manifold absolute pressure and the throttle position all tell the ecu how much air is getting into the cylinders. But I can remember which is which off hand

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - Matt - 06-11-2012

I know there is a grey one on the tips, and a beige one on the otherside and a yellow one on the front, the grey one will be replaced as I might have set fire too it....

Also the beige one is tps, that's getting replaced tomorrow. And have no idea what the yellow one is

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - samass - 06-11-2012

the yellow one, is like the one that Dum was on about, its the TB heater, if im thinking of the right one that is...

Inlet Air Temp has a little red blob on the end of a stick, with like a guard around it (as you look in the TB), and i really cnt picture it in my head so i cant remember what the other ones are... show me it and ill get it tho lol

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - Matt - 06-11-2012

Haha I'll get some pictures later.

The yellow one is the warmer
I know the tps
There's a small grey one on the side, which goes through to the inside, although unsure how it detects anything?

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - samass - 06-11-2012

if it doesnt stick out on the insidde, chances are thats your Manifold Absolute Pressure

RE: What can cause a bad starting issue? - Matt - 06-11-2012

It sticks out a little, anyway I will be getting my spare throttle body and sensors tomorrow and swapping everything. Will see what happens
