Seriously, what does this do - Dum-Dum - 17-10-2012

What does this bit do? (the yellow plug)

I honestly cant work it out and it definitely ISN'T part of the fuel or oil breather systems

It appears to be some sort of electro magnet thing with a spring on the back, it dosent open or close anything, it sits in its on little chamber that isn't accesed by any air flow, breather flow or fuel flow.

Im completely stumped.

Ill add another couple of photos off my phone in a minute.

just been out and looked at my spare one and its basically a valve to block off the vacuum hose to the charcoal canister. I know only some have them though for some reason!

RE: Seriously, what does this do - Dum-Dum - 17-10-2012

But mine dosent actually push on anything so cant block the line from the canister?

Are you saying that peugeot fitted something to mine that intentionally does nothing?

well its got aircon so yeah that does nothing Tongue

no im sure there was like a little gap in the casting on the throttle body that the metal plate covered or didnt depending where it was but now i look at your photos, im not too sure

Unless maybe its an electromagnet of some sort but what for i havent got a clue!

Always wondered the same thing Dum... Just thought I better leave it alone!!

Ah thats not a bad shout actually and would explain why ome come with and some dont. Dont think they would of fitted them to cars in hotter countries!

That makes a great deal of sense as its on the part of the body that gets most airflow at slight throttle openings but I honestly cant see how effective it would be, especially now mine if 15 years old and so probably dosent work.

Do you know if they operate all the time or are linked to the air temp thing and only turn on when the air is freezing?

RE: Seriously, what does this do - lewisdmz - 18-10-2012

Did I just answer a technical question correctly?!

RE: Seriously, what does this do - JackLewis_Dturbo - 18-10-2012

must be something to do with 'cold start'....

Re: Seriously, what does this do - Alee83 - 18-10-2012

Maybe like an auto cold start choke....

RE: Seriously, what does this do - Dum-Dum - 19-10-2012

Well Ive driven with it unplugged for a couple of days and its made no difference, maybe my miss fire when cold is a little worse or maybe Im just paranoid or maybe its just getting worse off its own accord.

RE: Seriously, what does this do - londondan86 - 22-10-2012

Fuel magnet?

/troll

RE: Seriously, what does this do - Dum-Dum - 23-10-2012

Its still unplugged and still making no difference.

RE: Seriously, what does this do - Ruan - 03-11-2012

Definitely a throttle body heater, it's to stop it cracking with cold IATs...

RE: Seriously, what does this do - CJ_Derv - 03-11-2012

Peugeot's are meant to have connectors not in use.....

so unplug haha Tongue
