sounds abit daft but would there be a noticeable restriction effectively making my exhaust manifold like my inlet? (gti) reason being to bring it out around the side to run a turbo...

It would have an effect on torque when the engine wasn't on boost as the backpressures would no longer be properly harmonised with the inlet. Go to the dp engineering website and have a look at their manifolds, that should be the sort of thing you'll.want for it
