Inlet Manifold Bolts - silverzx - 22-08-2012

The two shorter inlet manifold bolts on either side are becoming a pain.

25mm is too long even double nutted.
20mm is too short.
15mm is far too short.

Who's got a solution for me?

Got 20's in there atm but I'm sure that their causing a leak as they don't nip up tight!

Put studs in there instead like on the phase2 xuds?

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - Matt - 22-08-2012

22.5mm? Tongue

Re: Inlet Manifold Bolts - Dan! - 22-08-2012

Mindfuck. What you are describing is pretty much impossible mate. If 20mm is only just nipping up then 25mm should be fine, how can a stud be too long, the extra thread will just come out the back of the nut...

The 25's without the extra nut don't go in enough to press against the gasket. With a nut on it just spins freely/loosely once all the way in.

20's go all the way in to the gasket but dont nip up tight.

15's are too short (almost to even reach the threads in the block).

I guess you could get some 22.5's but my local "Nuts & Bolts" specialist only does them in increments of 5.

Guess I could just stick a load more washers on the 25's.

It might not even be leaking to be fair.

Cut the 25 to length simples lol Smile

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - Dave - 22-08-2012

Washers..... ?

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - Joe - 23-08-2012

both them answers ^

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - silverzx - 23-08-2012

Not helpful. Huh

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - Dave - 23-08-2012

I honestly dont know how you cant find those two answers helpful Trent, lol.

Hate to say it but are you sure you havn't f*cked the threads in the block?

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - Dave - 23-08-2012

Yeh after reading this, if its spinning freely then the thread has been stripped in the block. Sounds like you need to helicoil it.....

think im going to need to helicoil a few of exhaust bolts as turning a tad

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - silverzx - 24-08-2012

Cutting bolts to length isn't an option.

As for "Washers..." not particularly helpful there Dave.

May well be that the threads are f*cked. Just as well I got a donor DTub looking sorry for itself.

RE: Inlet Manifold Bolts - CJ_Derv - 24-08-2012

Helicoil it then, simply drill it a tad and tap then put coil in and cut some bolts to size to fit simple, otherwise your going to change the head for the sake of a bit of drilling and tapping.

To cut bolts to size simply put two nuts on and lock out as u would to undo a stud, and use the nut as a guide in a vice so you cut it swuare clean end up and jobs a gooden. otherwise space out with some washers id probably put a locking washer on too but no other options really,

I will have same problem when i come to change manifold gasket as its passin on the block and egt a puff of smoke from above engine but helicoils are awesome piece of kit tbh
