Recommend me a sub! - Niall - 08-07-2012

After a sub for my car. Not a fan of massive bass and I don't want a huge box in the boot. I'm going to build a box into one side for it to go into.
No more than £60 to spend and don't want it any bigger than 12".
Cheers!

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Matt - 08-07-2012

I hear ed has a decent one for sale

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Niall - 08-07-2012

I've been turned down for a mortgage though Sad

*awaits trolling from ed*

He only wants to sell sub and amp together for £100. Not for me!

RE: Recommend me a sub! - kingy - 08-07-2012

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JBL-12-1400W-CAR-BASS-SUB-SUBWOOFER-4-OHM-BRAND-NEW-/110826911175?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19cdcc75c7

had one of these and for the money i think they are worth every penny.

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Matt - 08-07-2012

I have a mutant sub in my car, 800w with a 650w amp, amp was £20 and sub was £25 brand new from shitfords

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Niall - 08-07-2012

Hmm not bad. Not a huge fan of jbl anymore but sure a sub will sound fine. Might check eBay for second hand hertz/focal/rainbow ect Smile

RE: Recommend me a sub! - kingy - 08-07-2012

you will do well to get a focal sub for £60.

RE: Recommend me a sub! - ginge191 - 08-07-2012

Get same as mine, you've heard it, happily under £60 and had extremely decent quality

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Niall - 08-07-2012

Was going to ask you what one you had Ginge? I never actually heard it when it was boxed in but being JL it probably sounds great!

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Ed Doe - 08-07-2012

Niall, ill take offers for the lot... Tongue

I will require fellating however Wink

RE: Recommend me a sub! - declantg - 08-07-2012

Vibe 1200 watts, sam will back me up on the quality of bass!

RE: Recommend me a sub! - zx_volcane - 08-07-2012

I just picked up a 2nd hand 12inch JBL in box for a coooool £20, and it packs a pretty punch. Searched gumtree?

Please don't insult me with vibe!

I know the brands I like but I just don't know much about subs!

RE: Recommend me a sub! - WiNgNuTz - 08-07-2012

Don't knock vibe, love my cbr active 10, 1300w, gives me everything I need in a sub. Like you, I'm not a fan of massive bass, mine takes the hard work away from the components, but doesn't overpower them. And it was free. Big Grin

RE: Recommend me a sub! - ginge191 - 08-07-2012

Ask Matt about my bass; it's pretty noice!

Recommend me a sub! - ash240970 - 08-07-2012

Rainbow Hammer 10 or 12 inch dual voice coils and only need a very small enclosure often see them s/h on eBay for about £60-80 - the 10 only requires about 1 cu ft to function well

The entry level JL 12" is good for the money (they're about £60 I think), served me well before I upgraded. I'm all about SQ not big bass, get something JL or Rockford IMO

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Eeyore - 08-07-2012

i got my a boxed sub and amp and amp for £25 on ebay and then picked up a brand new kenwood sub for £8 at a car boot sale! Big Grin

RE: Recommend me a sub! - CJ_Derv - 09-07-2012

15" Black Sony Xplod 1300w, lethal but pricey, i had 2 12" JBL in past and were ace also, a decent monoblock amp helps with a good wiring kit for clarity and power cap can help with power Smile

RE: Recommend me a sub! - mark_airey - 09-07-2012

I have one of these - http://www.focal.com/en/car-audio-sound/caissons-basse/subwoofers/30-a1.php

if your interested in it, sure I have mentioned it already to you Wink

RE: Recommend me a sub! - mark_airey - 09-07-2012

RE: Recommend me a sub! - Danny2009 - 09-07-2012

Im with kingy on this one, i had a 10" jbl in mine and it had some punch cheap to get hold of and decent quality Smile

Same mate. Not a fan of big bass. Just SQ.
Tbh i over looked Rockford. Will see what's up on the bay!
Not buying Sony. Hate Sony with a passion. Everything I've ever had of theirs has fallen to pieces!

RE: Recommend me a sub! - KrisB - 09-07-2012

I also have one of the £25 mutant subs powered by a JL audio amp. Is very good for what it is and the money paid!

Recommend me a sub! - ash240970 - 09-07-2012

If you really are into SQ then the rainbow is really the best answer - you can determine whether you want SQ SPL or SQL by the size of the enclosure and whether or not you port it - copy and paste this into your addy bar

Too big for my liking.
Andy, I am after a rainbow but finding a second hand one at a decent price is an issue

Yes I'm picky with audio.

RE: Recommend me a sub! - 4WayDiablo - 09-07-2012

Ah fair enough :-)
